background check for green card holders
Does anybody have the link for the TSA background check? Can one initiate it without a job offer (regional), or do you need to have a employment offer before starting the background check?
Just trying to get information in this matter to get ahead of the game.
I know that it will cost around $130, but havent' found the right link on the website

I am over qualified on this topic. TSA is something that will be initiated after you are electronically fingerprinted. They proabaly aren't doing anything in depth until then. They might be trying to retrieve your old records from a previous company. The fingerprinting deal has caused a ton of grief for some people, myself included. It may bring up things that don't belong on your record and you may not be afforded a chance to explain yourself. If the information in your FBI ID record is used for qualification for employment then you MUST be afforded a chance to correct or explain....that is if they find a disqualifying offense. (Oh by the way that is CONVICTION!) Now let me tell you that there are companys out there that don't know how to interpret nor read a **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** sentence and they may hold you accountable illegally. That is why out Gov't created the department of labor. Powerful, persuasive, and resourceful.

OH I digressed. Oops....don't have the link, but I can tell you TSA.gov is a good start. They have a ton of docs. that should point you in the right direction if you have an enourmous amount of time.

Hey Dude,

www.flightschoolcandidates.gov

Theres not much you can do until you are offered employment with someone ( If you fall under Cat 1). I am currently awaiting action on my file. The TSA decided to take the full 30 days which messed up my initial offer of training. I now have to wait an additional 30 days. I tried to get it started when I was job hunting, but they wouldn't allow it. You new employer has to verify that you are a prospective employee. Good luck with em. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

According to AOPA which have been working closely with the TSA this past fall and continue to do so, the TSA approval has to be back only for the flight training. NOW, Flight training has been defined by TSA & AOPA together as training, which will give the pilot new skills, and with this in mind Flight training means SIMULATORS OR AIRCRAFT TRAINING.
So indoc and systems ground school should not matter for the theory parts.

Go to www.aopa.org and search for info.

And I agree with huskerfan, that it would make a lot more sense to have Greencardholders get a pre-approval and an TSA ID # and then be able to present this to prospective employers instead of doing this process over and over and in huskerfan's case, miss out on valuable seniority #'s for job security.

Disqualification

I was DISQUALIFIED from my Captain's job back on June 17th, 2002 for convictions I reported to the FAA back on June 1997 and have not had even a ticket since. Lost the wife and kids (Hers) cause of it. How does an American lose his job and career and never left the bed that day. George Bush is how. And on that tape he all but admitted to using illegal drugs in the past. Question: Is it the act of robbing a bank that makes a bank robber or the act of being convicted of Bank Robbery. Once a person robs a bank he obviously becomes a bank robber. Even though Bush was never convicted of "Possession of a controlled substance", he was in possession of it in the past. If I'm a terrorist (Italian Roman Catholic) because I got addicted and was caught then George Bush too is a terrorist. His own neice, Jeb's daughter in FL. was arrested for forging a prescription at a Walgreen's drive thru. Oxicoten I believe. It's the alcoholic who makes skid row, not skid row makes the alcoholics. Besides, these terrorists DO NOT have criminal records. They truly believe, no matter how wrong they are, that they are doing a noble deed....not an evil deed. The only people who have been kept out of the cockpit via the 12-5 program are rehabilitated individuals who's convictions are not yet 10 years old. Mr TSA could wake up tomorrow though and change it to 20 years effective immediately with no grandfather and no due process... then later in the day there's some man on TV going Postal, taking hostages and shooting up the town and they ask why is he doing this? DUH!!
