Cape Air
I just left Cape Air a couple months ago, but I know exactly what is going on.
First of all They have NOT YET received their first ATR42, but the first one (only one as of now) just had its "C" checks completed in Canada and is supposedly at the paint shop. It's a former COEX bird.
The plan in the early summer was to acquire 4 ATRs send 3 of them to Guam, (2 ship operation with 1 spare) and operate them on the Guam-Saipan Guam-Rota trips that are currently being served by Continental-Micronesia in 737-800s. Continental Management was fully supporting this venture and actually approached Cape Air with the offer as a result of their satisfaction with Cape Air's performance as a codeshare and connection partner in the Caribbean and in Florida. ( Cape Air is now doing continental connection service out of Daytona, Miami, Tampa, and Sarasota)
I Don't know FOR SURE if this is the reason, but it has been speculated that the Continental Pilots griped to the union (probably rightfully so in my opinion) that the subbing out of mainline (Air-Mike) runs would result in a loss of jobs for their pilots. This put the kebash on any immeadiate action by Cape Air to fufill this role.
On top of this, Cape Air tried to raise money for the ATR program (and 121 certification for that matter) by applying to the towns of Hyannis and Nantucket for grants; stating that an addition of an ATR to this system will drastically reduce noise pollution levels by cutting back on the number of overflights (multiple 9 PAX sections) that exist now. This attempt failed, and facing lower than projected profits last season, this added to the financial complication of the whole project.
Despite all of this, one ATR is in the paint shop, The chief pilot, DO, director of training, and one pilot are currently in Houston TX getting typed on the ATR, and the talk of Guam is in the air again after a several month long silence. Apparently they are agressively pursuing the 121 certification as well.
Due to those lower than expected numbers last season, Cape Air had to close Providence for the winter, and furlough about 20 pilots (with good incentives to attract volentary furloughs). Not only did they succeed in getting voluntarys they blundered by overestimating the amount of reductions which led some of us (content) types to pursue other employment options. Because of this Myself, and between 8-15 others left for other jobs, took furlough recalls at other carriers (eagle and COEX), or just plain don't plan on returning. This is good news for anyone looking to work for them. I believe they will need to hire between 10-15 new hires in early 04 to staff for the summer and beyond. Don't count on an ATR slot though....!!!

I don't think they're available.
Anyhow, nothing but good things to say about working there (aside from the fact that you fly 402s in CRAPPY weather!) Great people, good maintenance, nice scenery, and way-better-then-1st-year-regional-pay. They'll even pay moving expenses if you go down south. Plus interline travel and j/s on everyone.. All's you need is an ATP and around 100 multi.
Hope this helps
