ATR 72 Question

I think it is either ASA or ACA flying the 72 into Hilton Head, SC

Can someone please fill me in on any operational restrictions due to runway length, temperature, ZFW etc etc..

I know the Dash 8/100's usually have to bump 5 or so perople in the summer season.

I js out of there once in a while but dont want to show up thinking there are 7 open seats to find out that they need 10

Yea, usually we (PDT) will fly out with 34 paxs! Unless there are about 5 kids on board the Jumpseat will be useless.
Good News, I think we go up to 13 flights a day during the summer.

I am curious also what the 72 takes out. We could only carrier out 36-38 depending on pax with the Dash 8 300's.
And where are you ASA folks staying down there? We need some more folks to play volleyball and party at the Tiki Bar!!!!!

I've been told it is climb restricted due to the trees off the end of the runway.

I could be wrong. But we used to do 15 a day from CLT in the summer (3 overnighters), but we have reduced it a bunch. Nice overnight, because we used to kept about 7 crews there.

And did anyone fly in there 2 weeks ago? Wow, it was rough! I have flown in there 7 years now and I can honestly say it was one of the worst winds.

i didnt fly that far south but that whole system sucked. At EWR and they were calling the altimeter 28.60.

I have only been once, and that was like the second day. The best I remember we could carry about 40 to 45 peeps out, full boats in. This is unless you get a FO and Capt. that can't read a TLR, then thay get 66 on. As the temps go up, you know what happens. Hope this helps.

Yup, we are limited in what we can take out of Hilton Head. We can carry a full boat in, 66 pax, but never out. Obstacle clearance on climbout is what limits our loads. Obviously things like winds and temps will determine the amount of weight we can carry, but normally it seems like we will be able to carry somewhere around 45-50 people on the way out.

I think it's like a 4000' foot runway. It looks short from the air, but once you are on final it is plenty long.

We stay at a Hilton resort. It is BY FAR the best lodging that I have come across in the service of ASA. The bill I saw was $130 per night. I think that it's the only place to stay on the island, but if a Motel 6 opened up, we would probably be relocated there.

I wasn't flying into Hilton Head on the windy day in question, but I have heard stories. I think that there was some golf tourney that was cancelled/postponed/affected by the winds that day.

Went in there once with 30+ knots across the runway. Banged it on, then burned half a pack of Marlboros after it. When I got back, the captain said something about me being a slang term for a cat.

Enjoy the hilton because when they realize that the hampton is .2 from the airport they will put you there..

Yea, 2 weeks ago it was nasty.... Fo did a great job, but I think both our knees were shaking like hell after we plowed in!! Been awhile since I watched and laughed while someone worked his a$$ off to get us in there!

I can't wait for the summer, I think I spent half of last summer wasted there!

The runways are plenty wide/long as they are. It's the taxiway that needs to be widened. When taxiing to the terminal, there's not a lot of clearance to spare on the wing tips.

Yea, they just widened the runway last year it much better! Doesn't give that illuision that your ref+30 when when u right at ref! It was a thin little thing that runway last year, and yea I beat with the ATR it looks like a wing is going to run thru the tree limbs on the terminal taxi way!

Yup used to only be 65 feet wide. That was sweet.
