Three hundred bucks now? Wow, they've really gone up.

I think it was $200 or so when I took it. It was definitely worth it. Remember, you have to pay the $80 or so fee just to take the testk, and that's included in All ATP's fee. And they really have it down to a science.

Now, you're already an F.O. for a 121 carrier, right? Remember, all you have to score is a 70. Paying the extra $200 or so to get that 98-99 score might be important if you're still trying to get a job. But since you're already an F.O., making F.O. wages, $300 might be a bit excessive.

Just my 2¢.

Yea, I am a FO at CHQ. I am going to pay the $300 as a matter of convience. By the way, LSU WOULD HAVE BEATEN USC!!!! THEY ARE NUMBER 1!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :p :p

I refer you to 61.39(b) which says:

"(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (a)(1) and (2) of this section, an applicant for an airline transport pilot certificate or an additional rating to an airline transport certificate may take the practical test for that certificate or rating with an expired knowledge test report, provided that the applicant:

(1) Is employed as a flight crewmember by a certificate holder under part 121, 125, or 135 of this chapter at the time of the practical test and has satisfactorily accomplished that operator's approved --

(i) Pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; and

(ii) Qualification training requirements appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; or

(2) Is employed as a flight crewmember in scheduled U.S. military air transport operations at the time of the practical test, and has accomplished the pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought."

From that, it seems that the applicant can take the practical with an expired written if employed by a 121/135 carrier at the time of the PRACTICAL if he/she has completed the carriers appropriate training for the rating/certificate. I had thought that it needed to be current when beginning employment with the carrier, but apparently not. YMMV.

Speaking of the ATP...can an FO take an ATP check ride and oral during an annual PC?

PUKE

Usually no. I tried every year for 4 years at Mesaba and it was finally explained why I couldn't. If you try for the ATP or type rating and you fail, then there are more stringent re-training requirements than if you just did your PC as sic. The company is not going to risk having to spend more time and money to do this.
