All written tests are good for 24 months. Do the regional have an agreement with the FAA that the ATP written is good till they make Capt.? I just want to know how this works. Does anyone know if this is for every regional or just some of them?

Props

as it says in the far/ and in the front of the test prep book, if you are employed by a 135 or 121 company, the 24 month expiration is waived. therefor it doesn't expire if you are employed at a regional

I am currently flying for a 121 carrier, but took my ATP written about 6 months before I started working for the company. Will my written test results expire 24 months after the test date since I was not employed on the day of the exam???

Thanks

They should never expire as long as you are employed by a 121 carrier. It is my understanding that they were valid when you were hired, therefore they will remain valid while employed.

Dude, just take the written every 6 months to be sure. It's only a couple hundred bucks a pop right? Don't be so cheap. Once you're on with a regional carrier, you'll be paid so much money that it'll be a drop in the bucket......

love that avatar.....

Hey liv'n on credit, that has to be without a doubt one of the best avatars I've seen yet. Being a fellow Hacket fan I wish they still ran the show on USA network or something, like they used to. Any idea where a guy could get some more avatar pics from Wings....I don't want to copy yours. Thanks, "and besides....I'm the one wearin' the FREAKIN CLOWN SUIT man!":p

Speaking of the ATP...can an FO take an ATP check ride and oral during an annual PC?

PUKE

Isn't your written good only as long as you do your upgrade with an airline, but if you decide 3 years later to go and get it on your own (like at all ATP's), you have to re-take it because its not part of your carriers approved program?

If you go to a 135 that does single pilot, see if any of the management are DE's.

That way, when you do your 6 month instrument check they can do the atp ride concurrently.

What it about if you took the test while employed as an F.O. at a 121 carrier, and then you got furloughed? I haven't been able to find the answer to that one anywhere. Is it then only good for 24 months from when you took it? Or 24 months from date of furlough? Most regionals that I'm applying to expect the ATP written, what do you tell them? I'm too poor to take it again. (Luckily it hasn't been 24 months since I took it!)

I knon this has been posted previously, but has anyone taken the written recently? I am getting ready to take it within the next month, and I am just going to go and do that All ATP all day prep course for 300 bucks. Any advice on this company, or any others? I think the test is pointless, and I am just looking to get it done.

Thanks

Three hundred bucks now? Wow, they've really gone up.

I think it was $200 or so when I took it. It was definitely worth it. Remember, you have to pay the $80 or so fee just to take the testk, and that's included in All ATP's fee. And they really have it down to a science.

Now, you're already an F.O. for a 121 carrier, right? Remember, all you have to score is a 70. Paying the extra $200 or so to get that 98-99 score might be important if you're still trying to get a job. But since you're already an F.O., making F.O. wages, $300 might be a bit excessive.

Just my 2¢.

Yea, I am a FO at CHQ. I am going to pay the $300 as a matter of convience. By the way, LSU WOULD HAVE BEATEN USC!!!! THEY ARE NUMBER 1!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :p :p

I refer you to 61.39(b) which says:

"(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (a)(1) and (2) of this section, an applicant for an airline transport pilot certificate or an additional rating to an airline transport certificate may take the practical test for that certificate or rating with an expired knowledge test report, provided that the applicant:

(1) Is employed as a flight crewmember by a certificate holder under part 121, 125, or 135 of this chapter at the time of the practical test and has satisfactorily accomplished that operator's approved --

(i) Pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; and

(ii) Qualification training requirements appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; or

(2) Is employed as a flight crewmember in scheduled U.S. military air transport operations at the time of the practical test, and has accomplished the pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought."

From that, it seems that the applicant can take the practical with an expired written if employed by a 121/135 carrier at the time of the PRACTICAL if he/she has completed the carriers appropriate training for the rating/certificate. I had thought that it needed to be current when beginning employment with the carrier, but apparently not. YMMV.

Usually no. I tried every year for 4 years at Mesaba and it was finally explained why I couldn't. If you try for the ATP or type rating and you fail, then there are more stringent re-training requirements than if you just did your PC as sic. The company is not going to risk having to spend more time and money to do this.
