NOTE: The 24-month limitation does not apply if the applicant:
1. is employed as a flight crewmember by a certificate holder
under 14 CFR parts 121, 125, or 135 at the time of the
practical test and has satisfactorily accomplished that
operator’s approved—
a. Pilot in command aircraft qualification training program
that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought;
and
b. Qualification training requirements appropriate to the
certificate and ratings sought; or
2. is employed as a flight crewmember in scheduled U.S.
military air transport operations at the time of the practical
test, and has accomplished the pilot in command aircraft
qualification training program that is appropriate to the
certificate and rating sought.
Does this mean that if I take the ATP written right now and then take my practical test while I am a military pilot the written will never expire?
Right now I am short of the required total time to take the practical but have been thinking about taking the written test just to get it out of the way. I'm currently flying the C-130 with the ANG.
The key is that if you are employed as a flight crewmember in scheduled military air operations and have completed the PIC qualification training for the aircraft for which the rating is sought, that should be acceptable.
If you're not certain, consult with your Operations Officer.
Ok here's my situation. I have an ATP written dated 7/99 AND I am currently employed with a 121 carrier. Even though it is over 24 months, I can still use it to get my ATP and type rating at my current 121 employer or just on my own.
BUT if I were to jump ship to another 121 carrier does my written expire and be forced to take it again?
