ATP written validity

Does anybody know where the rule is that says if you're currently employed by a 121 carrier that your ATP written is indefinetly valid?

It is in the intro and explanation pages of the Gleim ATP book. Not sure if it is in the FAR's somewhere, probably is, I just never bothered to look.

Check § 61.39(b). The stipulations are that you are employed as a flight crewmember, not just employed by the operator. You must also, (at the time of the practical test), have satisfactorily accomplished that operator's approved pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; and qualification training requirements appropriate to the certificate and rating sought.

I've read an FAA interpretation to that reg that if you go beyond your 24 months but are employed as a flight crew member you are still required to get your ATP written signed off by your local FSDO verifying your employment at your carrier. I've talked to several FAA guys about it and some knew about that and some didn't. Its pretty easy to get done though, all they need to see is your company ID that has a hire date on it so there isn't much reason to get to the day of your type ride and chance it with your APD.

When I upgraded I took my written to the POI at the FSDO. He said it was no longer required, but he made a sign off on the bottom anyways. He said he did this so if the people in OKC didn't remember they would still issue a certificate.
