I am wondering. I took a part 135 atp written while flying 135. i almost made it to 1500 hours when I decided to leave that company and come to a regional. If the two year limit expires if you still are working for a company it does not expire. If you switch companies does it still apply. Also, if you are flying part 121 but did a 135 atp written can you still use that to get an atp and upgrade?

Thanks

As long as you are employed at a 121 carrier it doesn't expire. I never did matter if you took 135 or 121. Less to study for the 135 test so I think most take that even if they are at a 121 carrier.

I don't agree. The difference between the two test versions are the regs. You still have the same amount of test chapters to study.

Besides, it's not that hard of a test. I know someone who scored a 100% on the 121 version. ;)

I was thinking of the performance portion, less airplanes in the 135 test making the chapter shorter.

100% on any FAA test isn't much to brag about. They give you all the questions and Gleim gives you all the answers.

I believe if you switch companies after the two year limit has passed, the expiration does count.

Don't think it's an entirely true statement either. Could depend on the local FSDO interpretation as with most rules.

We recently had a pilot in this situation who contacted Airmen Certification in OKC and was told that the written is good as long as there is no gap in employment. He was also told that you could do the ATP ride in other than a 121 training program and the written would count as long as you were currently employed by a 121 carrier. Wish I knew this before I retook it at AllATP's to have a current written for my ride.

Don't feel bad, I thought the same thing you did. And I'm such a huge nerd, I actually looked it up in the regs. Stripped of the lawyer talk, 61. 39 states that you can take the ATP test with an expired written if you are employed by a 121 carrier and have passed the company's upgrade training.
