I know this is a stupid question that I should know the answer to:

You are PIC when taking your ATP checkride right?

I was, and mine was combined with my first type rating.

You are the PIC during ANY FAA rating ride. I'm not sure what question you are asking? Loging, actions, what??

Are you appropriately rated in the aircraft you will be doing your ATP ride in......then yes

I took one of those crash courses in a Piper Aztec. You know a couple of rides and you are done. I am just used to from the Air Force that on some of our checks (yearly Instrument check) the Check Pilot is PIC.

Even in the Air Force, on line checks the checke is the PIC. On recurrent I checks and qual checks it normally is the check pilot to allow for touch and goes etc. But it could be the checke
