Hello-

I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue I have. I am a helicopter pilot in the Navy, and would like to get my ATP. I have about 1800 flight hours, of which 228 are private fixed wing, and 130 is PIC time. Also, of the 1800 hours, about 135 is military fixed wing (training). My questions are:

-Is there a way to count the military fixed wing time as PIC time, since it is not divided as such in the military log?

-Is there a way to count helicopter aircraft commander time as PIC time?

-What options do I have (other than spending lots of money to build up my PIC time so I can get my ATP?

Thanks,

Matt

Blatant thread hijack warning!

but with so much turbine helo time, couldn't you get a cushy EMS/Oil Rig/Police chopper gig?
stay home everynight and fly cool missions?

thread hijack over

Mudkow60,

Under civilian rules, any time after you are rated in the aircraft (i.e. have you private or above for ASEL or AMEL) you can count sole manipulator of the controls as PIC under FAR part 61. I don't have a FAR with me but does a fixed-wing ATP need a minimum amount of fixed-wing PIC or is it just a total PIC requirement? If it is just total, anytime you are a military aircraft commander counts as PIC under FAR part 1.

If you can't get enough fixed-wing PIC for the ATP, get the commercial/instrument AMEL. You'll still be eliegble for the job we are discussing. Than you can log sole manipulator PIC while flying as FO to get the ATP requirements in plenty of time before you upgrade to Captain.

Sole manipulator PIC works great for the FAA, just not for airlines.

Call me.

well, you could get a helicopter ATP, just to show that you're made of ATP material. With MEL commercial priveliges, you could get a 135 job as PIC (except turbojet) or you can get a 121 f/o position.

If you got a 135 job in say a navajo, or a king air, you'd very quickly have enough ME PIC time to get the ATP, If you got a 121 F/O job, at least that would buy you a little more time to build the ME PIC in other ways.
