I second what Gulfstream 200 said. Size doesn't necessarily make it "good", but we have only ever made an exception to the experience requirements for minority candidates. Now that we are ISBAO we cannot even do that.

I don't think it is very common but I was hired by a F500 (120ish at the time) w/ just an ATP written. I received the ATP w/ my CE650 ride. I was somewhat of a local guy, 2000+ hrs, no types but lots of CE500 SIC time, and knew several of the currrent pilots. I would guess this to be an uncommon practice in the industry, though.

It would be easier to get your ATP on a type ride. But if it bothers you not having one, why don't you go to ATP INC for a weekend school? Quick and somewhat cheap.....

Sure Lollie. Why not?

It should only take your husband 3 to 5 years to make Capt. Meantime, you get to eat lots of TopRamen noodles and collect foodstamps while you wait for the ever-generous Regional Airline to dole out an ATP to your hubby. Lots of luck to you both!

Kudos to SCT for making a short-cut into the jets. Hope you didn't wear out too many kneepads along the way. Nuttin' personal. <EG>

He knows an instructor, he used to instruct in CA. He can do it get it easy, as he says.
 
SO ... Where to go?

I don't have the night or X-C req's for ATP. With out my ATP I can't get a job at my preferred avenue of corporate (a place I can work into GS's or Challenger’s with high-end clients). NJ, Flex, and Shares won't look at me 'till I have an ATP. I see my only option as a regional with CRJs or ERJs to gather the golden "glass time" and or types. I would rather not slug it out in the regionals for all the known reasons, but for me I think it is the easiest way to get what I need to then move over to the bigger equipment in the Fracs or Corp.

A couple off you have said going to the regionals is a bad place to look/wait for all the desired types/ATP/hours/etc. But what are the other options????????

I will also let you know that I have a great PIC BE-90 time building job, but it is mostly day VFR with no option for night or x-c. The pay is worse than a regional, hence the emphasis on "time builder."

If you have a decent amount of BE-90 time, which it sounds like you might, you could try to get hired directly into the BE-99 at Ameriflight. The pay is not that great (better than first year regionals though), but just about all the flights are x-c and i'd say at least 75% of the flight time is night. Just a suggestion.
 
Been there done that for hrs..

He even pullled his back throwing 6500 lbs of checks into the airplane himself. He won't go backwards. I think we need a corporate/share? in Seattle or Coeur D'Alene.

I took my ATP and Hawker type ride at the same time, had 1800tt, @800 jet. My new employer was willing to invest in me. The part 91 Chief pilot there had 10,000 tt plus and several type but no ATP, never needed it in 91 so when we went 135 he had to get the ATP. My fortune 300 part 91 operator will invest in the man, not the log book. My chief pilot was flying tankers over Viet Nam with 700 tt. hours do not make the man, but there is no replacement for experience.

What the heck is he flying that can carry 6500 pounds of cargo? And without an ATP!!! My BS meter is going off. You sure he didn't hurt is back falling off the stool down at the brewpub?
 
FWIW - I flew right seat in Citation II's and V's for two years and at my third recurrent I paid myself for my upgrade training. Had about 2500 TT and 800 or so in the Citation. Two more days of training at Simuflite and it was only about $1200 in addition to the SIC Recurrent my employer already paid for. We are a two-pilot crew with four owners and it was a wise move for me. All you gotta do is take that ATP, (121 or 135) it doesn't matter but I took the 135, and let them know when you show up for training. Your checkride for the type has to be performed at ATP standards so why not take the test and get the ATP. Good luck man.

Hello, the written ATP was done 3 years ago! "Dear God" he flies a regional jet, he's not going to go backwards. I want him to go Corporate! P:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
 
OK, got it. He has an ATP. You were just wondering if companies will help a pilot get their ATP. Understood now. NP. I'll forgive you for trying to confuse me.
