Atlas Air is now accepting applications. Kind of vague on how they say it.

Here is a link http://www.atlasair.com/aa/contact/careers/default.asp

I'm under the impression (under the table) from some folks in management at Atlas that the Polar group of pilots and engineers need not apply. Similiar to the days when the Atlas folks were on furlough and Polar hired off the street instead of the type rated furloughed Atlas guys.

Guess you will have to read into that what you will.

Some history behind this.

Polar Behaving Badly

cfire,

The link you just sent has not changed in 6 months. There is nothing new there. Just like it says, "There are currently no open flight crew positions at Atlas Air or Polar Air Cargo."

Nice try though.

PS - Do you really think any Polar pilot would want to work next to the likes of you?

Just remember, there are no scabs on the Polar seniority list...can you say the same?

That's funny, A guy I recommended back on May 11th which came back with an immediate reply of not accepting apps was changed to accepting on June 22nd when I got the company email and posting. He has since resubmitted his info and they took it.

Please keep telling your Polar buddies what you have said though. I don't think that will be a problem. I imagine they will do the exact same thing of not hiring Polar guys just like they did when they took Atlas A/C gave them to Polar to do the same flying and furloughed Atlas crews then hired off the street.

As far as:

Yep, we have scabs. As a matter of fact, day one Atlas was formed. Have a list of them and most of the management are scabs or ex Lorenzo Lieutenants. So, you think we had any say in who they hired? Just like we didn't have any say in Bob Fell former Polar MEC volunteering his whole council at Polar to scab Atlas when we got down to our strike countdown. Lucky you that we chickened out I guess. That's on the slideshow

I have been updating every month since my initial submission without it being kicked back. Maybe hiring will occur in the fall?

Again, why would a Polar guy want to go work at Atlas? So they can move to Stansted England? Work 20+ days a month? Fly with guys that have zero morals?

I would be shocked if you even got one single resume from a Polar guy.

The joy you take in the fact that Polar is furloughing pilots is sickening....but expected.

what are the typical hiring req for an outfit like Polar or Atlas. I don't know anything about either company so please don't bite my head off. I've been flying Lears now for 2 years and am looking in a couple more to move on to the next thing...any advice??

typical.

Im based i STN and have been home this month for 24 days. on the west coast. pretty rough duty i would say. but im sure bobb will tell you different.

Saw where a guy that took 508 back to storage in HSV said he was told by the ground staff that it and 534 were being leased. Southern I think it was.

If 534 indeed goes away and not back to Atlas I think the writing is on the wall for the Atlas guys. 534 is the one that just had a heavy check and came out with a fresh Atlas paintjob.

Watching the crack mgmt. team I doubt they are going to stop at the Polar Classics, especially with the contract losses that Atlas has had over the last few months.

So would I. You guys generally only like to take jobs at others expense so you wouldn't be interested.

I'm not taking joy so much for your well deserved payback on a union to union basis, but thinking of it as a little less sabotage that your group can hit my union with. I'm sure you will have your chance later like you have before. Just like AACS, GSS, and Polar has been used for in the past to screw with us.

BTW, I heard that we are may be interested in the same offer Robin H. gave us on crossover seniority when we were in the same situation on furloughs. The one where he changed the language after the fact to read "bottom of the seniority list."

I think everyone is aware that we will be shrinking before we grow again. As for the "loses", the planes are fully scheduled thru the end of the year, then we'll see. I suspect some will be parked and sold in early 2007.

Just picked up another rotation out of Travis. That will be three a week now.

As for the crack management team, God only knows.

Well so far the only ones on the street are the guys hired by Atlas Air WW. Which brings up an interesting point, during the interview it was made clear that the interview was for both carriers and that the applicants would not know which one until called for a class. It was also stressed that it did not matter which class you were assigned since the two were merging.

Now since only Polar is furloughing(so far), and according to what was stressed during the interview and hiring procedure, in effect the company is furloughing out of seniority with regards to the joint classes hired, and the statements made to them as hiring conditions.

Brings up interesting possibilities of potential lawsuits. I do not know if legally it would hold up in a court, but I bet it is enough to actually go through the court system and cost the company gobs of money to defend it.

I am sure some somebody that is hit by this mess is going to think of it sooner or later.

Hate to tell you this but unless it was in writing, witnessed, or recorded in some way your out of luck. We deal in grievances ever day that the company said one thing and then individual crewmembers took them on their word. Later the company says it never happened and the arbitor says tough luck to the crewmember. I imagine court would be the same.

You can always sue someone over anything. It's a matter of how much money you want to give a lawyer to roll the dice.

Southern doesn't lease. Must be someone else.

I was told that Tradewinds is looking at one of those planes in HSV, not sure where Focus is getting their other planes from:rolleyes:

That would make sense considering the incident in Columbia recently. Does anyone have that link off the rejected takeoff security camera video?

I heard that Atlas was going to park their 200s as well. How many do they have?

As for Tradewinds, I can't figure out what that company is doing with their 74s. I don't know how they can run a program efficiently with 2 or 3 airplanes. And now there's a bunch of Tradewinds guys coming over and starting class at Southern this week. I'm sure Southern appreciates the experience and training that Tradewinds' provided.

Atlas accepting applications: Yeah sure and plan for you interview around 2015. At least you'll have alot of time to study and lose a few pounds for the "Pilot Pagent".

Nothing new here. Atlas will be furloughing before they start hiring again...at least the Polar pilots will have all the good -400 jobs and we can spread the word about the ScAtlas pilots.

This is from our company website:

Question: Will we be hiring any additional crewmembers this year? If so what are the projected needs?

There is no additional Crewmember hiring expected at either Atlas or Polar for 2006. First, as was announced in April, Polar's remaining Classics will cease flying at the end of this month, resulting in a significant reduction in Crewmember staffing at Polar. On the Atlas side, aircraft N496MC will be moving to Polar on or about August first, which will reduce the total fleet at Atlas to 26.
