Does anyone have any suggestions on where to eat in NAS. We will be staying for 3 nights at the Atlantis and are not sure if we should eat at the resort or go check out the local restaurants? What about activities in and around the resort? I know it won't be cheap but a guestamate would help also. In fact, any information that you would like to share would be helpful.

thanks

Pack some food. Paradise Island is owned 80% by atlantis. It is a long and shady walk over the bridge and down to town. The town closes down around 4-5pm and dosent' even open when the cruise ships aren't docked. There is nothing to see accross the bridge unless you are looking for drugs.

We took taxis which were not too expensive. Two dinners with no wine or desert will set you back $70-100(you read that right). We ended up eating at quiznos alot and split a $10 sandwich(They stay very busy at that price, which is robery in the US). You are at thier mercy when you are stuck on thier island. Very nice property, but it cost more to eat there than we paid to sleep.

Don't ask the cabbies, they will take you to a big resturant owned by a hotel and collect from the manager. Huge rip off.

Pack some food and enjoy Atlantis. It is truly a top notch property. There is no reason to leave it, you wont miss anything.

Only thing that saved my @ss at Atlantis was the best night of blackjack in my entire life. Always double down on 11 baby! Had to parlay those winnings into my tab. Anyways Hutch is totally right about prices. Cocktails will set you back 7 bucks a piece! Go down the waterslide as much as possible to help you get your money's worth...

Atlantis

i will agree that atlantis has some amazing real estate, an awesome walk through aquarium, and the cool waterslide through the shark tank. BUT I have been there 2 times the first time with my wife and another couple for a 3 day weekend and the second time for work..

The service and attitude of the help in my opinion absolutely 100% sucked..

Rude restaurant staff wouldnt seat us saying that we didnt have a reservation even though the rest was literally completely empty ( no lie)

Front desk staff had that puppy mill mentality

At the pool 4 margarita's and 4 burgers and fries $125 ( yes i said $125 )

Staff in the casino are complete a$$holes.. Made a small error at the craps had a pit boss screaming at me 6 inches from my face.

Better hurry up on the internet in the library. You sign up and wait when you get to 10 mins the staff will let you know right away.. ( 9am sunday )

Went to the gray cliff which is considered a 5 star restaurnat and historic site.. dropped $750 for dinner ( yes $750 )..

The biggest shocker was the crab claws ( plural ) appetizer this was $35 and out came 1 small claw.. I was told of the rarity of this particular crab by the waiter.. Next day on the way to the airpoirt the tide was out and they were running wild on the beach like rats on a rooftop in new orleans.

Rooms were nice and clean and the grounds are beautiful.

Would i go again? Absolutely not.. Next time i will fly out the four seasons in exuma..

TIP: make sure you make reservations for dinner the second you get there

attitude

I will add that I also witnessed 2 employees at the jetski rental get in a fist fight and on more than 1 occasion saw staff treat a small kid poorly..

I think a kid was looking for a fruit smoothie and the staff selling pool float and sun tan lotion ignored the kid completely..

I will add that i have flown all over the bahamas and have spent time in luxury hotels and beach front cottages.. The people in the bahamas are great EXCEPT for nassaau.. There is a ny city cabbie attitude there and it really sucks

The beach rentals are not run by the hotel. I could see guys getting into it over rentals. Supply and demand.....................

I guess the casino is lucky because I cleaned up at the BJ table as well.

The only good news is that airline rates are 50% off regular rates, but you are going to need it!

I have been to Atlantis a couple of times on the employee discount. Both experiences were well worth the money I spent. On Atlantis property, there is a restaurant called Murray's Delicatessen. We ate there more than once. There is also an outside restaurant under the seashell roof that was pretty reasonable. We also ate at Quizno's in the little shops across the way. There is also a place near Quizno's, if I remember correctly, it is called Anthony's, was pretty good. We also packed Pop Tarts, Lance Crackers, Combos, Aquafina, Diet Dr. Pepper, and some candy!:)

The only thing that was a little off by the experience was our hotel account (room bill) kept getting mysterious charges. I would go to the front desk each morning to deal with it, but they always took it off my bill. Also when I checked in, the front desk told me that my Credit Card had been declined, mind you, it was the same credit card I had charged the room to before I left. I thought this odd also considering that I walked right over to Quizno's and used the same declined credit card to pay for my lunch and then walked into town and did some serious duty free shopping!

Have a great time! Float through the shark tank and definitely go down Montezuma's Revenge!

One last piece of advice.......:0 Don't forget to pack your sunscreen!!! A small bottle of Coppertone in the giftshop was $15.00:0

Come to think of it they charged me for the mini bar that was never opened nor did I have a key for. They said they would take it off, but never did. The CC company took it off, but Atlantis never did.

Hit the "Leap of Faith" a few times, pretty cool.

It's been about 6 years since I've last been down to the Atlantis, so this might have changed. Took my family and the 4 of us got the American meal plan. It includes a breakfast buffet and dinner buffet. The food (at that time) was great and the meal theme changed every night. We ran the numbers and it came out more reasonable than eating out at a differrent restaraunt each night. We ate a huge late breafast, skipped lunch (maybe a snack by the pool), and then an early dinner. If you have to try one of the restaraunts on property and you're on the meal plan, they will credit your bill by a percentage. It's worth asking.

Some tips: Stay in the towers if possible. The far side is crowded and a hike. If you are an early riser, get down to the pool and claim your spot. We tipped a "pool boy" $20 for our whole stay to do this and we had prime locations each morning. The pool next to the "Leap of Faith" slides was the most active, and they usually had a live band in the gazebo. If you like bargaining, go across the bridge to the "market" to find cheap stuff for the kids. Take the aquarium tour, it's a back door look at the "Dig" and we got up close to the sharks and manta's. If you like golf, the Ocean Club course is top notch (but not cheap). Don't bother waiting for the $5 craps table to ever open up in the casino, min table is always $20 (as a side note, we got unbelievably lucky at one table and subsidized part of our stay, so it is possible. We made so much noise "whooping" it up, the pit boss compted us a dinner). Skip the "Grey Stone" in town, it's a superb restaraunt but way over-priced, as is the chinese restaraunt on the property. We had a great steak dinner at the steak house in the hotel, and it was reasonable, but if you order a bottle of wine, it's a mortgage payment. Make your reservations now (before you get there) to any spot you'd like to try (can always cancel when you get down there). And get your wife to the spa just once, she'll feel like a queen and the benie's come back to you that night. Dress like a dorky tourist on the flight down: they'll never check the bag you've stuff with underwear-wrapped Tangeray and Jim Beam.

Of course, it's been a while since I've been there . . . .

Visit the green parrot. If you're heading for the bridge to take you back to NAS from Paradise island, stay to your left, its on the bay to the left of the bridge.....Great happy hour specials on Kalik and cheap bar food. I strongly recommend it.

Agreed. I always kind of liked Abaco. Quiet, kind of secluded, and the people are much nicer.

What about the usage of aqua shoes? Can we get by without using them or should be buy them before we leave?

Regarding dinner reservations, can that be done through the resort before we leave as well? Any suggestions for my cousins 13th b-day?

Not that bad

I had breakfast at the restraunt in the lower level of Atlantis and it wasnt that expensive (eggs, bacon etc were about 15 dollars) I paid that in New York City last week. I had dinner at the restraunt next to the casino and spent about 50 dollars (some kind of fish and 3-4 mixed drinks). Drinks were around 7 dollars a piece.
If you rent a car there is a cool little restraunt on the opposite side of the Island across from the beach (on the airport side of the island).
Fishfry is where the locals go at night (about 10-12 dollar cab ride from atlantis) reasonable food and drinks. Beware of the skyjuice
