Because it sounds better than Candler.....
The basic story. We used to be called ACEY, but there was a Air National Guard out west that had the same callsign. They were around first and thus we had to change our callsign.
A year or 2 back they went away, and the callsign came avaiable. It took us that long for the company to change it back.

I think it is easier to hear on the radio than Candler. Out there is Comair and Air Canada, which can all be similar sounding.
 
It was our original callsign back in the day. We had to give it up in 1999 cause we shared it was some Air National Gaurd unit I believe out west. Since then they have disbanded and we applied awhile back with the FAA to get it back.

Yeah most of the people in the north were asking questions. I don't think we flew much north of the Mason/Dixon back then . .
 
I flew one of the first flights out to PHX from DFW and one of the controllers thought he'd be funny so he just called us "Camel Hair 245". It actually was pretty funny.
