Last week while in Ramstein Germany there DC-8 was parked beside us. I talked with there Captain and asked how things are going. He said there holding on by there finger nails. I think last time I saw there jet flying was about 1 month ago. They left at night and came back the next morning. I don't think they fly that much, but that was just one aircraft.

I was hired at ATI in JAN 99 and furloughed in JAN 00. They recalled some of us, but I didn't want to go back. Most guys that I know kept their new jobs. I am surprised that they are still in business.

They will be around for a while I'm sure.

They have the backing of Burlington (BAX).

ATI has steady business through BAX at their TOLEDO base. The work is steady although BAX< Emery & Kitty Hawk were hit hard by the economic slowdown in the last year. Cargo has been picking up at a steady pace. The DOD work is only a very small % of ATI business.

Don't be too sure. I don't wish anything bad on ATI, I have a lot of friends there. BAX is owned by Pittston Group, who also owns Brinks and Pittston Coal. The Brinks side of the business makes all of the money for the company. The Pittston Coal side is a huge financial liability because of the Black Lung Trust obligations. BAX/Global is really hurting financially, and has been for some time. My biggest concern in returning to ATI after the furlough was that they have no scope with BAX, and could easily be shutdown in favor contract carriers (a la Emery). They already use Capital Air Cargo, Gemini, Evergreen, and Kitty Hawk.
