I heard ATI is recalling. I knew some guys overthere years back. Some went over and helped get omni up and going when they bought a couple of 10's for cargo ops. The two companies where under the same owner.

Ive never heard of a Chief FO before. Quite a few of the three man operators have a chief FE though.

Haulingthemail you seem like a disgruntled employee. Almost sounds like you were cought in a bind without support. (teamsters have a lot to be desired) Just going by what Ive seen on the posts. You have a hard-on for the CP and your now at another job---just looks that way I guess.

You seem like a young pup still learning the ropes. I would use caution when using someones name due to the fact that its a small world and a even smaller industry.

DC8 Flyer made a similar comment in another post a while back. Thanks guys! Took that in Sharjah last year. First (and probably the last...:( ) time I'll have a chance to get such a picture, so I couldn't pass on the chance. It was dark when we parked next to the 707, so I was hoping it would still be there when we left the next day. Fortunately, it was, and ramp security was on a smoke break, so there you have it!

The whole chief FO thing is someone's idea of funny. Our previous chief pilot retired. He was (is...) the kind of guy that if scheduling called and said we need you to fly some pitchforks to hell, you'd want him on that trip because you knew it would go well and you'd come home from it. Our current chief pilot was a new hire FO without any DC-8 time or international experience. Yes, we hire a lot of people like that, which I think is great. However, he took the job just before a round of furloughs which would have included him, then upgraded (well out of seniority, obviously, and while we had downgraded captains to go with the furloughs, but he's management now - some people can't get over that...). So, for a while, he was only FO qualified while serving as chief pilot. As I've said before, no one else seemed to want the job, inside or outside of ATI (some politics were involved as well, big surprise...), so he took the offer. I personally feel that the chief pilot of a company that does the things we do should have seen a bit more of the world and preferably in the plane we fly. He's lacking in both. That doesn't mean he can't or won't do a good job as a manager. If haulingthemail wanted the job, he could have interviewed for it. Maybe he did. I wouldn't want that kind of attitude in my management chain, though. Don't even want it in my jet. There are better things to talk about.

In the meantime, glad to hear things are working for you J, but hope to see you and everyone back! Just think of all the people who'd be behind you on the list when we have to hire off the street again to cover peak! I understand we've reached the bottom of the furlough list for recall, or are very close, so the opportunity for second refusal may be coming soon.

I miss the -8, the people, the home basing, and the gamut of flying. Good times good times!

haulingthemail- didn't you leave to go fly for a fractional? I heard it is a good gig... I think your anger is misguided, but it is your anger and you have the right to hate on whatever you want, but you are coming across very juvenile. Get your pleasure from seeing our ATI brothers and sisters be successful, not by rattling the proverbial "monkey cage."

However in the recall of the furloughs, I was very disappointed to hear about this so called re-indexing crap that I can't find anywhere in the contract. The contract does say that when you bypass your first recall you will "stop accruing seniority and longevity." Not my fight, but it would be if I went back.

I agree, the company is going by what they did the last time there was a furlough and "re indexed" everyone coming back. That is NOT the way the contract reads. IMO, the CP had a great oppurtunity to step up and do the right thing there but he was either bullied into not doing it or just didn't do it, I choose to believe the former but you know what they say about appearences.

I hope that everyone that goes back doesn't get jerked around and furloughed again next January. ATI is a great place with some of the finest crew members out there, I will greatly miss spending the entire LRD layover in some dive bar in Mexico....

An outside application window begins next week (06/11/07). ATI forming a POOL of 10 candidates. In case folks on furlough do not return, to cover retirement and folks heading back to AA. By the way best of luck back American, and for the others who have moved on to greener pastures....Happy Trails!

HTM, of the very small percentage of your total posts that I've seen, this is the first that truly makes sense. If I were a pilot in my 50s looking for something to do, I'd go for it. If I were single and in my 20s looking for something to tide myself over until that "real" opportunity came along, go for it. If I needed the job for any sense of stability, longevity, family support, etc, I'd concentrate my efforts somewhere else. At least for now. ATI has a lot of regenerating to do before it regains any semblance of what it was a few years ago. Not that it was ever that great, but it wasn't that bad, either. Despite some of the decisions made in Little Rock, we've made money for the most part since 1998. Little Rock has always been somewhat myopic and hesitant, even in a boom market. In comparison, though, Orlando seems flat blind and unwilling to even consider that having a business plan is a good thing, and it seems ultimately that Orlando management will run us right off a cliff if they continue yanking the reins like they've been doing. Which, for all we know, may be the long term plan, although the very thought may be giving them too much credit. We deserve better as a company, but right now, the company is just a pawn.

Correction on my above date. The "Window" opens 06/13/07.

And for those interested, ATI is not a bad place to work, maybe not so stable at times I wholly agree! But for anyone who spent the last year at the "Real Southern Air Transport" (A once great company!). You know what a crap-hole being run by a Real Ass of a Chief Pilot (You know who you are) a non-sched airline can be like.

We may turn around we very possibly may not, but for anyone wanting to get Heavy Jet time this is a good place, and you may decide to stay.

Warning to those who apply: The DC-8 is not a "Girly-Man's" airplane!!! If your looking for an Easy Flying, Punch a Button, Sit Back and Watch airplane go fly a New Whale, 767 or an RJ. But if you want to learn Real Flying Skills, Learn Systems and See the World... Come Fly a DC-8!

For those of you too young and do not know what a DC-8 is. (yes I heard a AWA pilot last summer ask: "What in it world is a DC-8?" as we blasted past him. ) Follow the Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC-8

ATI has the second largest fleet of DC-8's, UPS has the largest.
