Less than a year ago, ATA Airlines was the largest passenger carrier at Indianapolis International Airport, operating 41 daily flights and talking about getting bigger.
But a new management team took over the bankrupt Indianapolis-based airline. Since then, ATA's presence has been shrinking -- to the point the final three Indianapolis flights will cease tonight.
The last scheduled ATA flight bound for Indy is Flight 4430, which will originate in San Juan, Puerto Rico, take on passengers at Orlando, Fla., and then fly here. It's scheduled in at 10:34 p.m.
While ATA focuses on Chicago and West Coast routes, Northwest Airlines has ramped up Indy service and now offers more than 50 daily flights, making Indianapolis Northwest's largest center in the United States after its hubs at Detroit, Memphis and Minneapolis.
