My "significant other" wants to work for ATA. The plan was to go to the Air Inc conference this weekend, hopefully meet Mike Gerdes there (we met him a few years back in MSP) and get an application. We can't get the time off from work now without calling in sick, so that plan is scrapped.

So, the next questioned I am asked is, can we fly on ATA to Indianapolis and "drop off" the resume there this week instead? I'm thinking this isn't such a great idea. Any ATA pilots recently hired wish to comment? I'm concerned that this will be perceived as pestering the chief pilot's office. Would we even be able to get in?

Personally, I'd rather go jetskiing this week, one last time before it starts to cool off. Not that I don't want to see beautiful Indy again...

I tried that back in February. Ther farthest I got was the security desk. The Secretary came down and took my resume, but I was not invited up. There is heavy security to get in. Still no call and I have an application in since November. Good luck

I would not recommend the direct approach. There are some companies where that may work, but I don't think ATA is one of them. Two reasons:

1) I think the previous poster is correct: You wouldn't get past security. All you would accomplish is making someone in the Chief Pilot's office stop whatever they were doing and come down to the security desk. I'm SURE they would remember you then, but probably not fondly.

2) ATA (in my opinion) attaches quite a bit of importance to the application itself, and the process of interviewing. They are looking for people who can follow simple instructions. If your name is Maverick, they probably aren't interested.

All that being said, I can tell you that ATA is a great place to work. I wish you the best of luck (or your significant other, I guess).

ATA interview/application

Hey English.you're best bet is too send off a resume to ATA. Thats what I did and if your /or significant other has the competitive times they WILL send a/an application. I recieved my app about 3 weeks after I mailed my resume.

Find someone the squeeze knows who flies for ATA and see if they are willing to write her (or him, let's not expose our gender prejudice) a recommendation. Send that in with a professional resume and follow the plethora of advice available on this forum via the search function.

If your "significant other" is of the same gender, I am sorry to tell you that your ship sailed when United stopped hiring. Otherwise, I wouldn't bring that up during the interview.
