ATA Airlines to Sell Chicago Express Unit
Monday February 7, 8:30 am ET ATA Airlines Inc. to Sell Chicago Express Business, Including Certificates
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- ATA Airlines Inc., operating under bankruptcy protection, on Monday said it will sell its Chicago Express unit as part of its plans to change its route network.
The sale will include Chicago Express's federal operating certificates, a fleet of 16 SAAB 340B aircraft, engine and airframe parts, ground equipment, a maintenance facility, and tooling and training materials. ATA owns two of the aircraft and leases 14.
Owning the operating certificates would enable the buyer to begin air service more quickly than starting from scratch, ATA said.
Chicago Express, operating as ATA Connection, connects small and medium cities with either Chicago-Midway or Indianapolis airports. It employs 400 people in Chicago and 200 in other midwestern cities.
ATA, which filed to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in October, has agreed to sell six of its gates at Midway airport to Southwest Airlines.
