Just curious how senior are the LAX & SFO bases??

Would a new hire have to wait years or months to hold them?

Thanks!

West Coast is senior. But....with more aircraft coming in the next couple of years, who knows.

LAX's most junior FO has a seniority number of 804 hired in May of 2000. A friend of mine who was in the same class as that dude has been trying to get in there for two years and can't seem to sneak in. SFO was just recently expanded by four pilots, and as a result, four relatively new hires got in there. The lowest line holder in SFO was hired in October of 2000, in LAX January of 2000.

There were several pilots who were awarded west coast 757 FO positions in the last bid, but due to the staffing crunch in the 737, were bypassed and are eligible for bypass pay as a result (which only works out to about 40¢ an hour). They might get their chance early next year, and I'm giving serious consideration to bidding the 757 in MDW then, too.

Not so fast!

Hi all-

Let me clarify for the record. It depends on what A/C you are flying. The L1011 is incredibly junior in LAX. I know, because I'm incredibly junior and I'm based there. I was hired in April, and since then have been based in all the L10 bases; IND, then JFK, now LAX. There is at least one FO in training right now that will be based in LAX behind me. The 757 tends to run more senior.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot about the L10 guys out there. The company has been talking about closing down all the west coast L10 flying since the minute I got here, but can't seem to shlt or get off the pot. I wouldn't count on being based there as a new hire, since probably 95% of all new hires have been going into the 757 or 737. With only 6 L10's projected to be operational by the end of the year there shouldn't be much hiring into that equipment in the future, either.

Actually, the cycle seems to be swinging towards the West Coast again. A lot of open time out of LAX, more than the other 2 bases combined. Lots of ad-hoc military charter it looks like..of course, this is all subject to change. Anybody know when the new military contracts are awarded or take effect?
