ATA has signed a letter of intent to get 7 of NWA's DC-10's.

Will begin operating them by next summer, to receive all by the first quarter of '08.

L10's will probably be gone by end of '07.

I wonder how many pilots will bypass the recall?

How many pilots are left on the line at ATA? Flying a DC-10 around the world on MAC charters wouldn't be too bad. Plus, those 10's are in good shape.

Really? World passed on them, I wonder why? I was assuming they were in bad shape. World is looking for at least 2 DC-10s.

Good for ATA and their pilots.

Flying an L-1011 around the world on MAC charters would be better. Sounds to me as if they are trading dinosaurs.

One thing that will help is that there are still a handful of ATA guys that flew the -10, so their knowledge may help to get the airplane on the certificate faster. It might only take a year vs. two. I was told by Boeing people that the former director of training cost them A LOT of extra time to get the 737 up to speed due to his unique personality and attitude. That is just what I heard at the time. I've been gone for quite some time now.

It's great that AirTran is getting widebodys.

I agree, their Director of Whatever was a little sniping C-unt.

I fly out of ATL all the time and they are great.

Ummm...

ATA= American Trans Air.

I'd imagine the -30's and -40's are in better shape than the L10-100's for sure. Don't know about the -500's they have.

Knowing big airline, NWA probably put a couple million bucks into them right before they sold them...

BTW, did ATA keep the DC-10 on the operating cert. when they had them before? TC

They are only getting -30's.

They only have -500 ----- 5 of them.

And no, the 10 is not on the cert.

From what I know - which means nothing -- they (-30's) are not in the best shape.

8r,Most are in good mechanical shape, depends on the tail # you get.The interiors and lav's could use an overhaul though. Not a lot was put into them once they were for sure on the way out.Great A/C if you own the gas station or somebody else is paying.
