I've been a Navy T-34 instructor for almost 3 years. My resume and what I thought was a pretty solid LOR from a 10 yr ATA Captain got me an app from ATA. I sent in my app in Feb/Mar timeframe and still haven't heard anything.

It may be because I've got until Dec before I can get out of the Navy. However, I've heard some rumblings that I may not have enough multi-engine time.

There isn't any min stated, yet I have about 1300 multi and about 540 of that is PIC. I've also got 1600 single engine hours, mostly turbine and mostly PIC. Does ATA look down on S.E. Turbine time?

Most of the posts I see for ATA are prior Airline pilots with a lot of hours, but not a whole lot of "military only" folks. I've only known one P-3/T-34 guy who has been interviewed and ATA told him no.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't know about ATA's philosphy on military only vs others. However, the chief pilot for ATA was at OBAP this past weekend and did essentially brief that once you have the interview the job is yours to lose (like most other places). So if your P-3 friend got the interview, ATA liked what they saw as far as quals and other paper qualifications go. Perhaps he didn't do well in the interview or on the sim.

They may want to wait until closer to your DOS. They don't keep a pool, so you need to be able to train soon. They asked when I could get out at the interview, of course, but then I got a 'no, seriously, just how soon can you be here' call before I even got my hire letter. From getting called for an interview to assigned a class date was less than 30 days. But they didn't call me for an interview for 5 months after I sent in my app. So maybe closer to your get out date you'll hear from them. Good luck!!
