Currently our minimum qualifications are:
2500 hours pilot time, airplane, which includes
500 hours pilot time, multi-engine, airplane
ATP rating
First Class FAA Medical
Radio Telephone Operator's Permit
We are doing a limited amount of interviewing and hiring to the First Officer position. Interested individuals should send their printed resume to the attention of the Chief Pilot (HDQFZ/4): American Trans Air, P.O. Box 51609, Indianapolis, IN 46251-0609. No faxes, please and due to the volume of employment materials received, we are unable to verify receipt.
Applications are only sent to individuals selected from the resumes we receive. In addition, we will request a $60.00 processing fee (payable to American Trans Air) to be returned along with the completed application

New ATA news for anybody interested in working for ATA. 767 rumors alive and well again. The company has filed a "letter of intent" with the ALPA MEC to discuss 767 wage rates. Looks like the company wants em and is working out a plan to see what they will cost to replace the L1011's which will be retiring with their respective "D" checks over the next few years.

I haven't seen any ATA interviewees around the Purdue sim building recently, but perhaps I am just missing them. Are they still interviewing Monday and Wednesday evenings?

You ought to be able to see them Monday thru Thursday evenings. They're running six a day, four days a week for the forseeable future.

I had the latest of the old Vanguard homies interview last Thursday. I was surprised to hear that ATA went back to the old interview process, with the 0800 start, lunch at the Holiday Inn, and the social hour after the sim ride. Other than that, it's still the same old thing.

I wholly endorse examining interviewees' eating and drinking habits. The hardest thing about my ATA interview nearly two years ago wasn't the sim ride, but maintaining for 16 hours.

I met briefly with one of the ATA recruiters at the DFW Air Inc. job seminar. He was impressed with my credentials and said they would definately send me an application. Hopefully he wasn't just jerking my chain. Has anyone else ever got an app. from them from attending one of these seminars. How about getting hired without a specific LOR from within the company. They have hired a bunch of former TWA pilots, like me, but no one that I am comfortable asking for a LOR from.

I guess I am wondering if he was just blowing smoke at me or can I really expect an application at some point in the mail.

They love you former TWA guys, I do too, some of the nicest pilots I've met. I had a friend who was hired with me who didn't have a letter of rec. Also know a guy that got the app from going to the seminar. good luck

Absolutely we hire TWA guys. One of the guys I went through L-10 tng with last fall was TWA. PM me your name and email address, & I'll put him in touch with you. Maybe you two know each other & he could write you a letter.

ATA in Dallas

Helmsmen -- I was in Dallas and encouraged by the comments made by Mike Gerdes from ATA. The line for ATA was long indeed (AW, jetBlue, AirTran, & SW as well). I talked with Bob Steinke and he made some solid encouraging comments and I'm waiting for my application as well. With 500 folks there, I'm sure the ATA folks were just overwhelmed with resumes and it will take 'em some time to get the apps out. I think they promised to send one to everyone who left a resume, but I would expect them to screen out folks who don't meet the minimums. I'll let you know if my application arrives -- could I ask you to do the same ? Keep the faith ...

What's the conventional wisdom on getting the interview after you send in the application? If you get the app and return it is there a pretty good chance of getting called? Do they call based on the order the apps are received or is it a point system? Thanks for any info...

No I don't know what that means for those of us who were promised applications in Dallas. Probably does not look good (or only the cream of the crop will get an application). For those looking forward to the April LAX AIRINC conference, my guess would be no ATA ......
