ATA to Expand Service Again in New York Area
Monday October 20, 3:44 pm ET
Carrier Offers Only Nonstop Service from New York-LaGuardia to San Francisco

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Responding to increased customer demand for low fare travel alternatives, ATA (ATA Airlines, Inc.) (Nasdaq: ATAH - News) today announced it would soon offer nonstop transcontinental service between New York-LaGuardia and the San Francisco International Airport on Saturdays. This new travel option adds to the carrier's new nonstop transcontinental service from Newark to San Francisco commencing October 26.

ATA is the only airline to offer nonstop service between New York- LaGuardia and San Francisco.

The New York-LaGuardia-San Francisco nonstop service will begin on January 17, 2004, with one round-trip each Saturday, complementing the one- stop service available on all other days of the week. The flight will then continue on to Honolulu. In addition, ATA will launch transcontinental service between San Francisco and Newark on October 26, with 14 weekly nonstops.

The carrier recently marked its fifth year of operations at New York- LaGuardia. To celebrate the New York-LaGuardia-San Francisco transcontinental route, the carrier is introducing a $139 fare (off-peak, each way based on a round-trip purchase), with travel beginning on January 17, 2004 *.

More than 2,000 passengers travel from the Bay area to the New York region each day, but prior to the introduction of ATA services, there was not a low-fare travel option to the San Francisco International Airport. With the additional schedules, ATA will provide 19 nonstop flight choices every business day from the New York metropolitan area's two major domestic airports, New York-LaGuardia and Newark, including 15 weekly nonstop flights to San Francisco from the New York-LaGuardia and Newark airports.

As the airline takes on a leadership role in the industry, John Happ, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales, said, "Our customers have indicated considerable interest in nonstop flights and easy access from New York to San Francisco. ATA is responding to the needs of its customers by delivering a low fare, high-value travel product wherever we see an opportunity."

ATA is offering its Travel Awards members an added bonus. Through ATA's Fly Coast-to-Coast promotion, Travel Awards members who book online and complete five round-trip, nonstops or 10 one-way, nonstops between Newark or LaGuardia and San Francisco will earn a bonus round-trip ticket between Newark, LaGuardia or San Francisco to Honolulu. Qualifying participants will receive regular credit for travel, in addition to the Hawaii Award. Travel must be completed between Oct. 26, 2003 and Mar. 31, 2004 and individuals must book online using their Travel Awards I.D. number.**

ATA will also begin testing meal service on the new transcontinental Newark to San Francisco flight. Breakfast and dinner baskets will be available for purchase for $5. Examples of offerings include buttered croissants, yogurt and fruit for breakfast, and gourmet chips and turkey sandwiches, and fruit or pasta salad for lunch or dinner.

ATA has the youngest, most fuel-efficient fleet among the major carriers, featuring the new Boeing 737-800 and 757-300 aircraft. Comfortable and spacious, these aircraft boast all-leather seats, adjustable headrests, large overhead bins and the latest in digital in-flight audio/video systems. From multiple music channels to That 70's Show and The George Lopez Show, the aircraft are full of entertainment options and movies on transcontinental flights.

ATA operates significant scheduled service from Chicago-Midway, Indianapolis, New York, San Francisco and Hawaii to over 40 business and vacation destinations. For more information about the Company, visit the web site at www.ata.com .

Wow. Now more airlines will try to offer nonstops from LGA to the West Coast.(as long as you have the slots...) That is amazing. No more JFK or EWR only. That is good for people in Manhattan----less costly cab rides or now a cheaper bus ride from Grand Central Station.

Bye Bye--General Lee

And I am sure that these will be flown by us MDW people, while the SFGPA continues to fly their cushy Hawaii turns. Hey, I can squawk about that because I was in the SFGPA on the L-10.

I don't have an opinion on the rule JetBlue wants to change, but I know ATA would use it to great advantage.

I don't think JetBlue would gain competitive advantage, just higher productivity. The playing field would stay level.

Before it gets out of hand....

Please note the copious amount of "winks" after the turns comment.

Actually, nevermind, I have removed the entire "turns" comment. I do NOT want to open that can of worms agian.

Let's just leave it as a shot at the SFGPA, who only work 8 times a month and are home every night, then when they DO get a layover it is in HNL and they complain about it.

How do they do that out of LGA. My understanding is that you can not fly past a 1250NM radius of LGA. Do you not think any of the other airlines would already be doing that?

Any comments or feed back to the 1250 mile rule.

AA

Good point. I guess ATA is special.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

I let this one play out for a couple of days, since as soon as I saw this post I went to the ATA employee web site to verify it. I couldn't find a single reference to the LGA - SFO service.

So, I don't know if the general is smoking our collective poles or if some reporter caught some ATA big wig out drinking but I can't verify the report. I don't know how we would get a waiver on the 1250 mile rule, whether we could launch 757's on that long a flight (the 737 couldn't carry more than couple of passengers and do it), or if its a good idea to duplicate service from an airport 10 miles away (EWR).

NJCAPT,

Well, I am NOT smoking your collective poles-----no way. Read the article I posted. Did I just make that up? I saw it on Yahoo Finance and I posted it. I'm waiting for an apology---the proof is on my first post.

Bye Bye--General Lee:rolleyes:

Hey, I just posted my 1300th post. I love this board. And, I do have a life outside this board---really.

Bye Bye--General Lee:D

ATA Announces Another New Coast-to-Coast Route from San Francisco International Airport

Carrier is the First to Offer Nonstop Transcontinental Service from
San Francisco to New York-LaGuardia

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Travel from San Francisco
International Airport just keeps getting better. ATA (ATA Airlines, Inc.
(Nasdaq: ATAH)) today announced that it has added its second nonstop
transcontinental route from San Francisco. The new Saturday service from San
Francisco to New York-LaGuardia will begin Jan. 17, 2004, giving customers on
each coast a convenient new travel choice at a low fare. This new flight
complements existing same plane, one-stop service between San Francisco and
New York-LaGuardia currently available Sunday through Friday. The new route
will be operated on ATA's Boeing 757-200 aircraft, which were recently
reconfigured to add up to three inches of extra legroom, providing an upgrade
in comfort for this long-haul flight.
"ATA is continuing its strong commitment to invest in the city and
community of San Francisco," said John Happ, ATA's Senior Vice President of
Marketing and Sales. "More than 2,000 passengers already travel from the Bay
Area to the New York metropolitan area per day -- ATA is pleased to simplify
their travel experience by providing convenient schedules and travel options
at a great low fare."
To celebrate this new coast-to-coast route, ATA is introducing a special
$139 fare (off-peak, each way based on a round-trip purchase) with travel
beginning Jan. 17, 2004.*
The new service addition is the latest in a series of expansions that the
nation's 10th largest airline has carried out this year in response to
increased customer demand for low fare travel alternatives. Prior to the
introduction of ATA services, there was not a low-fare travel option at San
Francisco International Airport. In July, the carrier announced
transcontinental service from San Francisco to Newark that will begin on
October 26, with 14 weekly nonstops. By January 2004, the carrier will have
increased its operations from 48 to 76 flights per week. This increase
includes adding a fifth daily flight to Chicago-Midway, and a second daily
flight to Honolulu, effective Oct. 16 and Nov. 20, respectively.
All ATA Hawaii fares require no Saturday night stay. The change fee is
only $50, compared to $100 charged by most major carriers.
ATA is offering its Travel Awards members an added bonus. Through ATA's
Fly Coast-to-Coast promotion, Travel Awards members who book online and
complete five round-trip, nonstops or 10 one-way, nonstops between Newark or
LaGuardia and San Francisco will earn a bonus round-trip ticket between
Newark, LaGuardia or San Francisco to Honolulu. Qualifying participants will
receive regular credit for travel, in addition to the Hawaii Award. Travel
must be completed between Oct. 26, 2003 and Mar. 31, 2004 and individuals must
book online using their Travel Awards I.D. number.**

Might have missed something but, doest the 1250 rule for LGA just include departures? All the news release said non-stop flights FROM SFO.
