ASRS report revealed to the public?

How did USA today get a hold of this report including the removable ID strip? What a breach of confidence!

The reporter was an FAA employee. What if he gave to USA Today himself? The report was submitted electronically, looks like.

Otherwise, why not email Linda Connell ( [email protected] ), the program adminstrator, and ask her?

The submitter HAS to have given it to the press. I was listening to the many reports about the "Potty Gate" in NH. "Somebody" mentioned that the union leaked :laugh: the story due to the ongoing conflict between the union and the FAA.

This seems like it's right along those same lines. When is ALPA going to drop the dime on the regionals hiring 250-hr pilots for peanuts instead of paying the experienced folks a respectable wage?

What about the use of this report in this article would suggest a breach of confidence? As a casual reader, you have no idea how that report became available. The ignorant assumption that a failing in the ASRS system has leaked the report is unwarranted, and entirely unsubstantiated by the presence of the report in the article.

In my opinion, this was leaked by either the controller or the union in order to bring this safety issue to the public. I can't believe USAToday didn't redact the controller's name and phone number though.

Yeah. Who in their right mind would leave their name, telephone number, and address on the strip for all to see? Even if the controller or union had the intent to leak, they would never include full identity such as this.

Which means exactly squat. As there has never been a breach of confidence with the ASRS program, and there is nothing here to suggest otherwise except wild guesswork and speculation, I see no reason to believe or imagine that this thread represents such a breach.

The rusky salivates every time she gets a chance to go after the ASRS program; it's a little obsession with her; she just can't let her dead horse go, even though it's festering and bloated beneath her. Just one more chance to beat it here.

If the submitter of the ASRS report provided it, then there is no breach. No evidence exists to suggest otherwise. Until that evidence is provided, then one may continue to presume that this subject still has no credibility, despite the best efforts of the red menace to prove otherwise.

Guesswork. Not facts, not science, but wouldas and couldas. You really have no idea what the source of the report was, nor the intent of those providing the information, and can only substitute your own bias as to what you think might have happened...guesswork.

Right mind is meaningless here. We do not know who provided the information, nor for what purpose, nor in what form. Nor do we know who elected to leave personal information on the form. If it was anybody other than the ASRS program, then there is no breach of confidence on the part of the ASRS.

No I don't. I love the ASRS program. How I believe it should be used is a separate subject. I was not out looking for beef on the ASRS program when I found this. In fact, I was looking for articles on alternative energy. Stop twisting my posts to keep beating YOUR dead horse.

Avroach, you have no proof that the ASRS report wasn't leaked from within the program itself. So please, stop trying to claim fact over fiction when you cannot prove otherwise.

The fact is, this guy's info is printed clearly on the ID strip for the public to see. It won't be long before he finds out himself if he hasn't already. Especially since he threw his agency's mangager under the bus.

Here is the email I wrote to Linda:

Dear Linda,

As a U.S. pilot flying within our National Airpace system, I recognize the importance of the ASRS program and its efforts to increase safety. Recently, while browsing the internet, I noticed an ASRS report in PDF format posted on the USA Today website. It appears to have been submitted electronically. The report was from a controller and it included the ID strip with his full name, address, and phone number. After seeing this report, I was shocked. How could a full copy of an ASRS report get into the hands of the media? So, my questions to you are: How did the ASRS report and ID strip get in the hands of USA Today? Was it leaked by the reporter, ATC union, or the ASRS program itself?

Please note that I am not a member of the media, nor am I attemting to place any wrong doing on you or the ASRS program itself. However, I feel that as a user of the system, I should be able to obtain the truth of the matter.

Out of respect for Linda and her position with the ASRS, I will not be posting her response here. However, she did inform me that the incident is under investigation. Until I emailed her, she was unaware of the USA Today having a full copy of this report. She believes that the controller may have given the report to the media, but she is not sure. She will be contacting the USA Today to find out the truth of the matter, and to seek a retraction or disclaimer.

When I get a chance, I will respond to her email. She will be in contact with me concerning the situation. I will let you guys know. I hope, for the sake of the system, that what she believes is true.

I know the full and complete story on this. I was a member of the SRMD(Safety Risk Management Document team) and would be glad to fill everyone in on this incident.

What we have is a disgruntled FAA controller. Instead of going through proper channels he went directly to the NTSB.

I spent months in MEM, DCA and BOS working on the final report. I can tell you that none of the crew members in either the SAAB or DC-9 filed a NASA report.
