I would appreciate a little guidance on this one. I start class @ ASA in October. I also have an offer from another company to start in October. Til a week ago my mind was set on ASA. Now with latest news I'm not sure what would be best for me and my family. I not looking for someone to to tell me what to do, I'm looking for thoughts on what is going to happen to the quality of life @ ASA in the coming months.

What is the other company? No matter what happens with DAL, I can't see ASA being affected much.

Unless its a job with SWA,UPS, or FDX I think you'll find that a lack of pay, stability, and upgrades is pretty uniform right now!

Well, if you start in October, you should finish training at the end of the year.
The DFW shutdown will be complete on Jan. 31, 2005 for ASA. Currently, ASA
opened 60 Capt/60 FO spots for SLC, but that may increase to 90 each by the
end of Jan. The remaining DFW pilots will be domiciled in ATL. I'm not sure how
many DFW Capts. will switch over to 50 or 70 seat FO positions for quality of life,
but that would affect your stint on reserve. The increase in flying out of ATL
and CVG will offset most of the relocated DFW pilots. You will probably set some
major changes in the DAL network over the next 9~12 months and that has a
direct effect on ASA. If everything goes as planned, your stint on reserve
may be pretty short or it could be at least 12~18 months. It is very hard to
figure out since we don't know the complete restructuring plan on Grinstein.

Just remember, ASA is like Alabama, nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want
to live there forever!

I would choose ASA over Eagle any day! You will have more money in your pocket, and might actually upgrade someday.

18 70's with one spare in Salt Lake. We always have a 5-1 ratio which equals 90 Cpts and 90 FO's. As of the present, we will need all 180 unless there is a complete change of plans. And we know that wont happen!

Oh Ya, Eagle sucks, out of 6 friends of mine that went to work for them in the last 5 years, 0 are still there. It really does suck there, but that is your call.

That's not quite true Tim. It will be possible to staff a lot of SLC flying with ATL crews. There are numerous cities which aircraft can cross over between systems (MSP,STL,OKC,LIT,SAT,AUS). I'm not sure if they'll do that, but it certainly will be an option. There are quite a few guys on the 70 in ATL, and they continue to send more to training. It seems to me they don't plan on downsizing ATL CR7 base anytime soon, so it might be a smaller than expected base out west. We'll just have to see.

If you want to live and be based in DFW, Eagle is the place to be. Eagle is going to see big growth in DFW, Thanks to Delta. As for the upgrade... well you never no..just plan on 5 years at Eagle, if its less then you lucked out. It would be a more easy choice if Delta would disclose there plan for ASA/Comiar.

What I heard was that though the position notice said 60 Capts and FOs, Drew was thinking they may award as many as 75 spots each in the 1st round. I can only hope...

And there WILL be flying through of ATL pilots. They've said that to us already.
