I have looked through 30 some threads cause I know i have seen someone give info regarding ASA's training. Anyways, I start May 8th and was wondering what training is like and how many weeks it is? Any tips or any way you can get gouge for training? Do they still put u up in the Red Roof? Roughly how much do you get paid a month..(figuring bills out)? Thanks guys...any info is a help.

Yes you stay in the Red Roof. Basic Indoc is 1 week, then 3 weeks of ground school, then 4 CPT sessions, 8 sim sessions, checkride, QLOFT, then IOE. I believe that you get paid guarantee in training, but may be mistaken about that. You don't need to prepare early, just show up ready to learn and you will be fine. There is gouge on the oral questions that you can obtain once you are here.

The pay after all the taxes and everything (depending on the state you claim) was about $550 every two weeks. Kinda brutal really but some airlines don't pay you squat.

Welcome to ASA. Training footprint is approximately 58 days, which includes 2 weeks of basic indoc, 2 weeks of systems, 1 week of gen ops, then 4 cpt's, 8 sim's, 1 checkride, 1 loft, and IOE. The only class that is on the computer is systems, which is half the day doing CBT and half the day getting lectured, if you are on the CRJ. The ATR does not have CBT IIRC. You get guarantee during training, which works out to be right around 1506 before taxes i believe. See you on the 8th! pm me if you have any more questions.

$19.02 per hour times 75 hours of guarantee, plus credits. Training credits are 3.75 hours per day of ground training per Section 11.D.2.b. of the contract. Make sure you keep track per day of the month. Depending on when you start, it could work out to your advantage. It did for me. I actually had a month with more than 20 training days in it, which put me over guarantee for the month. It's all spelled out in the contract, which is available under asacontract.com.

Most important piece of advice.....be careful in the vicinity of the Red Roof Inn and don't bring a nice car. It's a high-crime area, but you'll be fine if you don't do anything really stupid.

Good luck and have fun!!

I was goin to drive my truck there from (DFW)...is it better to have a vehicle while you are there or do u not really need it? Thanks for all the info...i am excited! Any idea which plane they are needing pilots for?

For the 2 months or so you'll be in training, you'll need a car. Just up to you if you want to bum rides from people or have the means to drive yourself. It would be worth it to drive over IMO.

Now your talking to a poor ass crop dusting redneck, but is nice to have a car. You get tired of eating the same old stuff. I had a ice chest in my room and kept lunch meat and other stuff (BEER) in it. It was nice on the lunch break to just eat an sandwich and kick back a few, naw just joking about the drinking at lunch. The most important thing I can tell you is to have fun and study.

It is NOT a "high-crime area." You might think so if you come from a small town or a farm, but trust me, there are PLENTY of places worse in Atlanta than the corner of Virginia Avenue. I never felt my car was in danger in Red Roof's parking lot.

And how long have you been at ASA?

Long enough to have made it out of training without running into trouble in that "high-crime area."

So I guess that means you haven't been here but a year or so.

Ask the pilots that have had their rooms broken into.

Ask the pilots that have had their cars broken into.

Ask the pilots about the time they have been given rooms with someone already in them.

Ask the people that have stayed at the Red Roof about the front desk clerks being beaten.

We've been at the RR for approx 5 years and ASA knows of all the problems.

How many times the Police have come to the Red Roof because of drugs, theft and fights.

Once again, you haven't been here long enough to know the history.

CRJ-50 ATL. Long shot ATR 72 ATL. Approx 4 to 5 yrs as of today, subject to change at any time.

As of the last final bid, CRJ700 Captain went to a December 99 hire. There were no 200 slots available.

The prior bid had some ATR slots that went to a July 30, 2001, hire.

The CRJ200 has been the choice of more senior guys lately because it has better schedules than the 700.

Believe it or not, they are putting together at least one class for the ATR. All the others will go to the -200 training since the -700 is just a short differences course after your -200 training wraps up.

True, it is Lot 3 that you have to watch out for. If you as so much look the wrong way at the boys from The Bada Bing Lounge, they'll torch you car. Don't believe me? Just ask those poor guys whose cars are by the last pickup shed.

So your sayin i should come to the RR packin my nine....lol. It'd be somewhat of an awakening for someone to mess with a guy from Texas' truck. Thanks guys for the info too.

Careful there, Tex. I have no doubt you ARE in for a rude awakening once you move to ATL. That's true of everyone who's ever lived anywhere else though. The only people who don't think ATL's messed up are those who were born/raised here. Just hang in there. There's aways some good mixed in with the bad. And there are plenty of us here who are amazed daily by the weird sh!t that goes on here in the ATL. I find it helps to talk about it with others....you'll see once you get online. Good luck in training and welcome to ASA.

Not for nutin, but it could be worse.

Yeah, its not a great neighborhood, dont leave "Delta Country" on foot, by yourself, especially at night. Be aware of your surroundings, and dont do stupid. For those of you coming from the unsullied parts of the country, where you can still leave your doors unlocked at night, it may be a bit of an adjustment. Those who have lived in urban America should have no problem. Its not Beirut in the bad old days.

The RR is a hole, but again there are worse places.
Try to get an upper floor, and ask for a room with a desk.

is it single or double occupancy during training?

It single occupancy.

I always find the fact that the question even has to be asked is a really sad reflection on how bad things have become in this industry!

The first thing you should get is a concealed handgun permit.

The second thing, H&K 40.

For what its worth, and this was over two years ago, my car and others were broken into at the Red Roof. Even Buicks are fair game in "the atl." I think the security guy was in on it, and he prob. had an overdose or is in jail by now...but Virgina Ave does have its share of crime. Of course, with a brand new Ruby Tuesday, I'm sure all the criminals have gotten jobs and are productive taxpayers by now! HA!

The Red Roof in is probably the worst hotel in the world. If you're not hearing people having sex, its the peoples kids stomping outside your room. Also YES, it is a very HIGH crime area. There was a story of a newhire FO who almost was stabbed when he walked from b 52s back to the Crack-whore Inn. Don't take anyting that is worth more than 5 bucks. You can't even trust those maids they have that clean your room.

Just heard some news.....the May classes have all been halfed in size. I may not be in the 8th class and will be put in the 22nd class. grrr Another test on my patience. Can't wait to get there. Like givin a kid a toy and then taken it away. Guess thats the industry now.

I don't think this applies to initial training but I'm no expert on our contract.
