Hope people don't make the same mistake as they did with SLC. As quickly as it comes is as quickly as it will go! ATL is the only sure thing.

50 seat base to open in LAX, starting in December. Chief pilot FF on a conference call this smorning. Announced it to crewmembers, who was told to let everyone know. Annnouncement will be available via MyASA sometime this afternoon. That's all the details I have. Sorry for not having anymore. Man a lot of stuff makes no sense around here.

Actual time that this call occurred was 0730 SLC time ... might surprize you just how many of those ATL peckernecks will bid LAX.

Bid for LAX comes out August 7th...will be interesting

Does anyone know how to find out

A.) Which cities are going to be served by ASA?
B.) How many cities are served by DAL or its Delta Connection carrier via a one leg commute?

Not to mention how senior the base will be. When SLC opened the most junior reserve f/o had three years. It has only been in the last two months that a second year f/o could hold a line and that is because some senior people quit or upgraded when the announcement to close the base was made. Bid what you want and want what you bid.

Jesus, of all the places. LAX sucks donkey b****. Plus, who can afford that place on our salary? I give it 6 months and it will close.

Is this going to be 'new' flying, or reallocating flying we do out of ATL (being reolaced by CHQ and Freedumb)? I doubt this means any new growth for ASA, or even a status quo with the 700's we are losing.

Having worked previously at LAX, I can say I wouldn't move back unless I made 6 figures. LA is a great place to live, but only if you have the money to buy a place west of the 405. Especially if you have to drive in daily for day lines.

I think those senior guys will have realized the folly of following bases at ASA. Of course, the move will be on the company's nickel.

Who'd want to go to LA to commute in for day trips? With six airplanes the lines will suck. I'm glad I didn't hang around hoping for this big announcement.

I can see the cover of Atlantic Southeast magazine now:

ASA: Now Screwing Up Intineraries on TWO Coasts!

good luck guys trying to commute in and out of LAX on Delta unless you live in one of the west coast cities that will be served by ASA. As far as I know, Delta doesn't really serve many cities out of LA. But hey at least you'll have your choice of DAY LINES to chose from...what a mess

Except for those that already live out there, I can't imagine anyone bidding LAX on purpose. There is no way that you could live out there on our pay.

Day lines aside, given the choice between commuting/moving to ATL or staying in SLC and commuting to LAX, I think there will be quite a few SLC guys that go for it.

However, I hope your right so that I can hold it. Even though it will be a choice between two evils, not doing the 4 hour commute to ATL will make it not much of a choice at all. Damn I was really hoping they'd just leave SLC alone and feed the LA flying from here.

sorry guys, hope the SLC folks have an easy commute.

All the while Skywest gets more flying in SLC for 90 seaters at the pay scale as a 50 seater.

Yay..

Yeah you gotta love that! "race to the bottom!"

The 600 and 100 mins are for people that have FMS training, glass cockpit time or turbine time. If you don't have that you probably need 1200 and 200. My advice, don't go out and buy the extra training, you will need that money during you first year. Keep instructing and building time in other ways. Best of luck.

So who is thinking of putting in a bid? If you are what is your DOE and what seat will you be bidding?

Put me down for a f/o, DOE 5/04

I'll bite. I'll bid it and as far as I know, only USCTrojan is in front of me(11/98) so far. I think it's going to go senior though. Lots of SLC guys are open to any alternative to going back to ATL. LAX is home to me and doing daylines and being back in CA is what I wanted when I first got into this industry. Probably not going to happen though...

Are the airplanes going to be 50's or 70's. If there 50's are you Salt Lake guys ready to take the 10k a year paycut. What about you USCTrojan (K.R.)? Fight ON.

Ok so ASA closes the SLC domicile b/c it is too expensive to have a domicile there.....but it isn't to have one in LAX?!?!?!
The crazy things they do........

Yes, it's crazy to me too. We are taking over the American flying out there. I have no idea what they will do and how they will disperse the 70. My guess it will still operate out of ATL. 50 seat flying will begin with a base that's extremely small, and hopefully grow. Starting around 5-8 airplanes. It doesn't make sense, but then, how is ASA going to stick anymore airplanes in ATL too?

Hey Hollywood, do you have your bid in yet. You can probably hitch all the way to LA.

This is a great sign in my estimation! For once Delta is ACTUALLY dictating what happens here. Every other move that has come from these clowns is we didn't get because Delta said our cost were too high. We all know it was all Baba Striesand! Now there is real direction being passed down by the mother mule. They, BL, SH and CT can not play games with all this by giving and then supposedly taking away. "We lost our LA flying because we weren't competitive enough." I wouldn't bet my stinking whore of a step-sister on them telling the truth.

Just one man's opinion!
