50 seat base to open in LAX, starting in December. Chief pilot FF on a conference call this smorning. Announced it to crewmembers, who was told to let everyone know. Annnouncement will be available via MyASA sometime this afternoon. That's all the details I have. Sorry for not having anymore. Man a lot of stuff makes no sense around here.

I heard about the flying out of the flying out of LA, but I did not know they were seriously considering a base out there. Better get a bit more than 19.02 an hour then if you ask me. But hey, go team go.

I'm gonna have call shenanigans on that.

Yes, it's crazy to me too. We are taking over the American flying out there. I have no idea what they will do and how they will disperse the 70. My guess it will still operate out of ATL. 50 seat flying will begin with a base that's extremely small, and hopefully grow. Starting around 5-8 airplanes. It doesn't make sense, but then, how is ASA going to stick anymore airplanes in ATL too?

Nice how J.A. told us in RGT in SLC that ASA was not a viable base for us with only 15 70's but it would seem that 4 50's in LAX would be!!! Whatever...it'll close within a year also. Have fun living in LA with ASA pay!!!

That is what I am saying, you wont get my fat butt out there, I would probably leave if no pay adjustment was made, I mean I can barely afford South Texas. But I think that the flying through the area would make for a nice change of pace, at least in the beginning before the B/S started to stink. But as you said, I dont think it would last. But then again, this company is not known for laying out a game plan for everyone to see or learn from.

I think this one will grow. Supposedly we're getting 21 flights a day just to Mexico from LAX. Add the Eagle flying we're taking over and it will grow over time. Plus Skywest cannot operate a hub at LAX for Delta because of a "no compete" clause in their United contract. A lot depends on our contract too. We'll see. We need to change our company name to Atlantic Skywest Airlines. Sheesh, nothing makes sense.

Except for those that already live out there, I can't imagine anyone bidding LAX on purpose. There is no way that you could live out there on our pay.

I agree. We do have some folks that are crazy enough to commute to ATL from LAX, so I imagine they'll be psyched!! I myself will bid it and commute. See my boys play on Sat. as a bonus!!

That would be a nasty commute. I'd like to see the company TDY pilots out there for a month at a time or so. I wouldn't mind doing that, but I wouldn't want to commute it all the time.

Yeah, supposedly the Company looked into reserving some 30+ rooms a night in the LAX area. From what I'm told, they were either excessively expensive (no surprise), or just not available. Unless you head into Watts or Compton. There might be a safety issue with that, however! ;)

Let the record show, that I for one would put a big F.U. very much on any bid sheet that I saw that on. Not to change the subject though, anyone hear about ASA to COEX flying in new ATR of of IAH?

Funny, lots of SkyWest folks out here living on about the same pay. A bit rough on FO's, but the Captains I know of do ok. Don't discount it out of hand if the housing prices are what's stopping you from bidding it. If indeed it is true that is.

Can someont please explain to me how ASA is taking over flying from American Eagle?

I did not know we were getting that flying from anyone, I just thought the company was doing it for expansion. Kind of like those 900's

I can't tell you exactly how the codeshare works. Either Eagle operates a million flights a day to various destinations out of LAX to San Diego, San Jose, Monterrey, Santa Barbara, etc. and Delta purchases seats on those flights, or they operate directly for the Delta Connection. I'm inclined to believe Delta purchases those seats. Delta wants a bigger presence in LAX. They want to eliminate the confusion of Delta passengers riding on American. Delta says who flys where and when in the Delta Connection. I have a feeling, when Jerry Atkin bid on the Continental flying and lost it, he looked for anything to continue to grow. Anyways, that's it in a nutshell.

Any other idiots on Flightinfo care to call this a shenanigan?

I think what he is saying is that the flying that Eagle does on behalf of Delta in LAX will be replaced by ASA. Eagle will still operate on behalf of AA.

ok thanks refreshed my memory a bit. I use to work for Eagle and delta did codeshare to most of those destinations. I dont know how it all worked but san diego was the one destination with the most delta pax.

OK I admit I was wrong, why don't you hang me?

Anyway only 3 A/C seems kinda pointless. Are they moving CPs out there or what?

SLC made it 18 months as an ASA base. My question is how long will LAX be an ASA base. Any wagers?

Dear ASA Pilot
Today, ASA is announcing the opening of a new crew base in Los Angeles (LAX)
effective December 1, 2006. In order to adequately support the Delta Connection service
ITomLos Angeles to points in Mexico and the western United States, a domicile is
necessary.
The initial start up will be with 2-3 aircraft and then reach a total of 6 aircraft by the first
quarter of 2007. Delta at some point could decide to grow the operation beyond an
anticipated 6 aircraft but there are no plans at this time.
Should you have any questions, please contact your Chief Pilot who can offer further
assistance.
Thank you for your continued professionalism and support.
Sincerely,
tic Southeast Airlines, Inc.
