Concourse C renovation will now include jet bridges.

Sounds like 70 and 90 seaters are the best for that situation.

I heard that Freedom will operate around 14 - 90 seaters in ATL by Sept.

I think mgt is stalling the contract why they get other airlines in place to shrink ASA.

Your thoughts?

interesting

where did you hear that? rumor or some kind of memo?

Stupid ASA. They are building jet bridges on concourse C so the likes of Freedom, Skywest, Shuttle America, Pinnacle and now Comair can park their CR9's and E170's at our gates. I'm sure all of us ASA guys will be more than happy to duty in at C then hike it over to D where all our 50's and 70's will be parked.

I doubt ASA has much choice. More likely the airport authority and big D.

You forgot Express Jet

Express Jet already uses the jetways for the XR's they are flying for Delta out of LAX. ATL must be in the mix as well.

My thoughts? What about all of those jet bridges that the company purchased? What will happen to them, and if they go away, at ~$30K each, how much money was wasted on them? Not to mention the 5 or 6 that are hearded over by that dead AirTran 737 on the North Ramp.

Haven't we heard this song and dance before?

Ah, yes.. "Coming in Spring 2006! The NEW 'C' Concourse!" We even had those snazzy computer drafted pictures..

For those of you still in denial. This is just another one of the pieces. SLC and LAX closed. The 900's getting transfered. ATL's ramp going to Delta. Ten DCI carriers.

The pace of this contract is slow right now for a reason. The first two years we can blame ourselves for dragging things out in hopes of the economy picking up. The next two were the company knowing that this place was getting sold to Skywest. This past year has been the company again trying to buy time. My hope is that they only want to shrink us so that we can be absorbed by Skywest. But that is not what the pieces look like.

Option 4 is here boys and girls.

DAL made the changes when they took the gates back. They will actually save money reinstalling the jet bridges vs buying the new escalators and elevators for the original renovation. Also, with DAL running ramp ops, ASA airplanes will be able to park any where on the airport like the other DCI carriers do now. The ramps we currently use now are owned by SKYW and will be sent to the outstations.

SH told us about the jetbridges in recurrent. It is a Delta thing. I am not one to believe what Scott says too often but what he said makes sense. Delta wants the experience between mainline and connection to be as seemless as possible. This goes along with taking back the ramp to mainline. You also see with the new paint jobs in the connection planes that the "connection" is small and below the windows of the plane no where near the "Delta". They don't want folks knowing they are riding on contract carriers. I have no idea what the arrangement of the jet bridges will look like, but it seems unlikely that there will be anywhere close to the same number of parking spaces availabe as there are now. Read what you want to into that.

That is my 2 cents for today.

I would imagine they would be shipped out to out stations like ICT, etc. that have no jetways at all. A little like when DFW closed down and you can see bag carts and covered walk ways all over the country. I've seen ex- DFW equipment in BUF & tons of other smaller out stations, they'll find new homes.

Yeah it's not "ASA getting jet bridges" its jet bridges going onto C. Nothing like having to duty in at C then go to A for the first round trip, over to E to get an airplane that came in from Mexico, so that you can do a Dothan round trip, come into D and then back to A for the overnight airplane.

The name if of this thread would be more aptly named, "Concourse C Gets New Jet Bridges!"

ASA is getting nothing. In fact, when the Jet Bridges get installed, ASA will be no different than any other DCI carrier at ATL. You will park on any free gate, which could include A,B,C,D,E, and maybe sometimes T. There will be no proprietary gates for ASA. It gives more flexibility.

Delta is just now figuring this out. Continental figured that out with ExpressJet years ago. Very few outstations use hardstands. There are the two large areas of hardstands in IAH and CLE, but for the most part CAL doesnt want the customer to know they arent getting on a Continental operated aircraft. Most customers have no clue anyway, but there are some that do.

Thank God. Soon we will park on A and B where the food choices are much better. I don't mind the concourse swaps so much, but ASA better realize they wont be turning crews around in 45 minutes if we have to go from A to E to catch our next leg. Hell, they can't turn us in 45 minutes when we keep the airplane :P
