I was on the crew bus going home yesterday and overheard an FA saying that there was a meeting in SLC the other day. They told the people there that SLC will be closing this summer. I'm not sure if this is a rumor or if it's true. Anybody know for sure? Also heard that they may open up MCO.

Nope not quite...No mention of "if" or "when" although it was discussed that SLC was not viable for ASA, and there was no mention of new bases. I would guess JFK over MCO but ya never know. I would love to keep SLC as a base but I'm not counting on it!

What a kick to the groin for all those SLC people. I hope it all works out for them all. I know some of the personal temoils they went through. At least the Skywest guys will be jumping up and down with joy over all their new flying. Maybe upgrades will drop to 6 months!!!

79%,

What is your problem? Do you need somebody to hate? Do you have to get yourself worked up to deal with your situation? Every time your management bends you over, its somebody else's fault.

Skywest guys are not creaming themselves over what is happening to you guys. What they're doing to you today they will do to Skywest pilots tomorrow. Anyone who can't see that is a moron.

No, just hate what is about to happen to many of my friends in SLC, and hate what our pilots and FA's deal with daily at ASA, while it seems some gloat at SKW over their fortunes at the expense of our misfortunes. As sad as it is, there are some at SKYW that welcome it, because it benefits them. Sad, but true. But no, I don't hate anyone........except Generall Lee, who has been extraordinarily quiet lately!!! Yea!!!!

Listen guys, here's the feeling over at SKYW, it is true that some will be happy about more flying, but most are not at the expense of ASA guys. We had A LOT of SLC flying before ASA came in. Some of the SKYW guys are looking at this as taking back some of that flying that ASA and the 70 took. Not saying its right or wrong, just tellin it like it is. Others are pounding sand because mesa will be taking some of that flying.

The rumor of SLC being all SKW by the end of the year is what we hear too. I'm here in SLC, in the hangar for upgrade and we've been hearing the stuff around the halls too. We've also heard rumors that all the bro flying will come to an end by that time and the only two cities that will be srved on the bro are SGU and SUN. Supposedly FAT and PSP crews will be flowed into the SLC system to do that flying. They've recently awarded waaaay too many upgrades for those two bases and that would support the rumor of the bro flying. Who knows. The only thing thats for sure is that nothing is for sure anymore.

Good luck guys!

Well, good insight. Just remember over there, we are being asked for paycuts, and we have had about 10 upgrades in the past 18 months! Not looking very good for our career progressions. Couple that with another possible base closure and maybe you can see how we feel here.

10 upgrades in 18 months?????

Where did you possibly get this? I agree it's been pretty slow the past 4-5 months, but maybe you forgot last spring/summer. There were awards of 10-25 captains coming out almost every month. I'm too lazy to do it, but get on MYASA, and you can see all the awards for the last year. I'd say we've probably upgraded over 100 captains in the last 18 months. It's always feast or famine here when it comes to upgrades. I agree that upgrade times are pretty long here, but don't spread this kind of bs!

SLC guys and gals:

Change your pilot bid preference so mgmt has to pay moving expenses if it goes down.

:rolleyes:The sky is falling....the sky is falling! Give it a rest already! If it happens, a lot of people will be quiting! Another nice job by mgmnt! Screw the employee's!

79%, you're not alone in your frustration, but blaming it on the Skywest pilots is simply misdirecting your anger. The idea of ASA getting out of the SLC base is by no means a new one. Those rumors have been around for a long, long time. And remember, until BL or others from the Big Gray Box show up in SLC with a security team, it's not official.
Whether they are "jumping up and down" at Skywest at the prospect of quicker upgrades is sort of silly. My guess is anyone would be excited about the prospect of upgrading faster than expected. However, the only ones who would actually jump up and down would be the same ones who would blame another pilot group if the pendulum were swinging the other way. We are in a place where we all need to rise above our personal agendas and look a bit more long term and see what's best for both the ASA and Skywest pilot groups as a whole. If you're going to be angry at anyone, please be angry at management for this whipsaw tactic that is attempting to divide two pilot groups who potentially have a lot in common. We NEED to work together, or we will all suffer for it.

Slc

So far for March, it looks like there are more lines than last month. I would guess no reductions, even though 2 CR7's are heading to SKYW. Right now it's all rumors. Delta is dumping a lot of flying onto Connection in the Spring.

ASA in SLC aint going anywhere,. give it a rest...

Everybody keeps using the "why have both in SLC when they are both owned by the same company " Well when DAL owned us we were in CVG (i know not quite a domicle, but close!) and Comair was in ATL.. Why, because thats what airlines do.. Diversify.

So, just out of curiousity, how did that work out for Delta? Did they grow with that model? Or decide to sell one off and down-size the other?

Hey 79%= Skw is kinda fat on RJ Captains right now, so anyone over here sportin wood over a quick upgrade might just have some misguided ideas themselves.

USC--those two airplanes were not ours to begin with...fyi

As far as I remember ASA had 22 airplanes on order (either 50s or 70s) before Skywest bought us. Those were our airplanes. When we were bought they became Skywest Inc's airplanes and they are now being handed out to Skywest Airlines. In effect they were our airplanes. Whey else would the configuration be different for some of these new airplanes? The FAs having to be cross trained to know both configurations.

That's what I had thought (planes on order). However, after talking to some of the IP's, they said they were in fact airplanes on our property and that reductions would begin. All I'm saying, is that so far for March, it doesn't look like any reductions. Rumors are flying everywhere, and I suppose when I see it in writing I'll believe it. Other than that, I don't want to live this twice!

i don't care anymore

Let them part out ASA...This industry is in the toilet anyway... HEY BL and SKYPEST, I have been treated sooo sheety here that I am NOT a the point of capitulation, even after those pathetically transparent and embarrassingly juvenile memo's ,but rather, exhaustion. With this crap I say shut it down even with a pay increase..just to see BL and those liars squirm.

Maybe one day I can really really really work hard and fly an 88 at american or delta for $65 bucks an hour on 5th year pay.... ooh lucky me

Didn't you get the memo? We're putting cover sheets on the TPS reports now.

I know... I rarely get embarrassed, but after reading that 'memo' that Brian Letarded sent out I truly felt embarrassed for him.... that a grown man, interim operator of an airline would sign his name to such drivel, and post it as true....but then again, let's be honest here, most pilots are shortsighted idiots and have a proven track record of falling for such lunacy. The rumour around the crewroom is something with United probably in DC. But mngmnt will probably say if we don't reduce our wages that this will go to skywest.

I'm Hearing that too. Have heard that SkyWest Inc. will be given a large chunk of UALs ops at Dulles, with ASA doing the flying. It makes sense to get ASA on a second codeshare.

All that I have heard is speculation based on United's recent announcement of taking over 35 gates at IAD.

Edit: I started a long rant about the FEW SkyWest and ASA pilots who are acting like children here, but it just isn't worth my time. If you individuals act and think anything at all in person like you do on this board, we won't have to worry about you being at either airline for very long.

Once again, I am hoping the best for ALL of Skywest Inc.'s pilots. Any of you in SLC, feel free to PM me and we'll get a beer. (or decaf, non-alcohlic beverage :) )

Hi 79%N1!!

Sorry I haven't responded lately, I have been flying a bunch. I see SkyWest closing your SLC base unfortunately, and whipsawing you until you cave. All of the rumors about larger planes for you are moot, since we will strike and shut this place down first. And, if we park everything, you too will get parked. Then we can all go work at Wendy's. (Free FOOD!!!) Have a great one. Let's hope we get an agreement before that happens, right? You bet.

more blowhard drivel from general lame. shut it. nobody cares. 6000+ posts(what a dork)

In all honesty, I would LOVE to see you even attempt to back up that shut down threat. We ALL know your existence, and self esteem, are based on the gold bars, without those, you see yourself as the juvenile loser that the rest of us already know you are.

Hurry, I think the model glue is drying on your wicked cool IROC Camaro

Once again, GL spouting what his opinion as fact or what everyone at Delta will do. I think its probably closer to the truth that most Delta guys dont even know or care how many or what size planes the Regionals fly. That seems to be my experience with them, the Senior ones at least.

What? You have no clue. Even the senior guys I fly with on turns to the Carribbean say NO to larger RJs. These "senior" pilots were junior before 2300 senior guys bailed. Those are the guys that didn't care. Again, you don't really know what you are talking about. How's your strike stuff going? Will you guys cave? Oh, but you say we will.......riiiight.

You really, really funny man. You can't back up anything, so you resort to stupid put downs. You look dumb. None of your posts have any value. So sorry.

2300 pilots retired huh General? You sure you got that number right.

Good luck with the shutting the airline down with a strike. I hope for all our sakes that level heads prevail for all our sakes. Oh, yeah, I hope all the other employees don't have access to the pilots addresses if you do kill DAL. I'd hate to have that angry, looking for a pound of flesh mob, knocking on my front door like you guys probably will. You might want to have an exit plan in that case.

As much as ASA managment has tried to beat it out of me I am still an optimist deep down and believe it will get resolved.

I hear Bombardier is looking to build a bigger turbo prop than the Q400. Maybe you guys will get to fly those. Nah, that would be below you, right?

Here is to hoping you don't tear up when you receive flying that SkyWest airlines pilots earned. We can all be happy for ASA.
