Aren’t those ASA pilot embarrassed picketing like that? I would NEVER picket

Yeah you know you wouldn't you little ball-less bastard. But if CON goes out someday bet you'll change your tune. Here's a guy with an ASA grudge who got on with CON (supposedly) and stillcan't stay off the regional board. Loser!

I'm not too internet saavy- can someone show me a link to the "national" coverage of this I cant find it anywhere- and please dont link the alpa site- I know they covered it.

I just think it was more of a flop than the union wants it to be... If you can only have 25-30 people picket- why not organize and have 20-30 picket at some airports served by asa and get some real attention? (ohhh its alpa- they just want Skywest money... they dont care about ASA... If they did-they would have picketed Delta when Delta owned them- i answered my own question..)

No offense to ASA guys i feel bad for you- but Skywest Inc. bought you- delta didnt want you. you are still flying because of Skywest Inc.

alpa DOESNT REPRESENT REGIONAL PILOTS INTERESTS!!!
I know it's not "national", but here you go-

hes talking about the history of Skywest airlines i believe. he managed Skywest from its begining 30 years ago.. but im sure you know that

My bad. Pay no attention to the ramblings then.

I talked to someone that was there, and apparantly many of the pilots were pilots from other airlines that were already out in Las Vegas for the big ALPA meeting. This was more of an ALPA show than anything else.

Which is exactly what the Comair deal was 5 years ago. ALPA got their strike without a major's pilots having to walk and Delta got to have their show down with a labor group. As I recall the slogan was "Take one for the team".
I dare say this is history repeating itself on both sides. Who's going to blink first this time?

1. Skywest bought ASA because, as Jerry said, he could make money from Day 1. ASA has made money every year, except year one, since 1979.

2. Delta sold ASA because, if they hadn't, they would have not had the money to go into bankruptcy. Less cash, they sold ASA for about exactly what they paid for it in 1999. However, at the purchase by Skywest, ASA had over 100 more RJ's than they had in 1999 and a phenominal low cost order for more. And, don't forget about the transfer of control of the C gates. Jerry is smart--and rich off your backs and even richer off ours!

3. If Skywest had not bought ASA, Delta would not be flying today. But guess what? As a result, probably neither would Skywest. Although prior to the purchase, Skywest only did about 40% of Delta flying, had Delta retired, Skywest would have followed! From a revenue perspective, the Delta flying for Skywest is much more lucrative than the United. Every one had a vested interest in seeing Delta survive. It might be submitted that ASA was key to everyone's survival in this case because ASA had value. No one party should be beholding to any party in this matter. You all were on a sinking ship and all forced to get in the same lifeboat.

4. Your last point is a very important point! Carry this to your fellow pilots! I am a regional pilot or better put, I am a PILOT! ALPA represents all pilots, including me! I can honestly say, that my life is better today because of my affiliation with ALPA. I would also submit that your life is better today because of ALPA. In closing, ALPA represents my interests! I happen to be a PILOT that works for what is called a Regional Carrier (if you really buy the regional part.)

5. The Continental Express Pilots are considered regional pilots. Ask them if ALPA represents the interests of Regional Pilots. By the way, did you hear about their new agreement? Check out their new pay scales. They didn't get there because of the likes of SAPA! They got their because of two major reasons. The first reason is ALPA and the second reason is Unity!

6. Until the pilot groups of Skywest and ASA find a vehicle to provide Unity, they will be whipsawed! If I thought SAPA was the answer, I would join today! Maybe the real question you should ask yourself, is "does SAPA represent the best interests of the regional pilots at Skywest?"

7. Instead of pridefully pointing out our differences, we should humbly find our common interests and goals! Until we do that, we will never realize our potential in working together, but most certainly serve our master's intent of working apart and against each other. As long as there is an ASA, there will be a threat to Skywest Pilots. As long as there is a Skywest, there will be a threat to ASA pilots. Our master has no loyalty except to himself and his stockholders.

Let's see! Over 100 pilots in SGU were picketing. The group was made up of ALPA pilots; some from ASA, many from other carriers including Mainline, Regional, and Freight! The point is, they were all ALPA pilots that according to sources came together in support and boarded a bus at 6am for a 2 hour ride up and back from LAS. It made my news! Expect to see more of it!

My point was this is being driven more by ALPA than by the ASA pilots. ALPA is going to throw the ASA pilots under the bus.

According to our FO rep, only about 20 of the picketers were ASA pilots. The rest were other ALPA people at the BOD meeting in LAS. Here is his post on the ALPA board.

I was there.
While we were picketing in St George, Jerry came out, in my opinion, attempting to show he wasn't intimidated.

He asked the spotters a few questions like "how many are actually ASA pilots" (response: "doesn't matter", but we had about 20 out of the 80). Then he walked along the line telling everyone "Welcome to St George, I hope you enjoy your stay". Then he confronted Duane and tried to show Duane why ALPA was being unreasonable in our requested compensation in regards to "industry average" pay and what Skywest bid to Delta. Duane's response was along the lines of you're making record profits, and we'll see you at the negotiating table. All the while, the SkyWest GO rats were outside cheering.

While he probably got a lot of mileage locally, I think Jerry really made himself look like an amateur. There were several news crews there, including a local TV station, with national feed. It was picked up in SLC. If Jerry really wanted to send a message, he'd have ignored us and pretended it didn't bother him. The fact that he took time out of his busy day proves we got his attention, which was the point. And his confrontation with Duane was totally asinine. I mean, what did he think Duane would say? "Yeah, you're right Jerry, we give up. C'mon everyone, back on the bus!". Not likely to happen!!!

The whole point you jackass is that ALPA is comming together to the shock and horror of management. Guys comming in from other airlnes is a bigger statement than your own carriers pilots alone. The point was not how many ASA guys came in from ATL. Where were you? Oh I forgot, you were sitting in the GO or your chair in the Chief Pilots Office.

What is ALPA going to do to stop Jerry from transferring airplanes to Skywest? What is ALPA going to do to protect our jobs? The point is, this was another ALPA flagwaving circle jerk, while the ASA pilots get the screw job.

Wah wah wah! Crybaby! You'll just have to get a job crybaby! Or, go apply to SKYW. Show Jerry your flightinfo posts, maybe he'll give you a management job! Crybaby!

Maybe you should apply somewhere else. It is you that isn't happy here. I am happy here.

Take a valium man! Jerry will take care of you. Your chair is being monogramed with JB, LJ, BW, or CV right now over in a sleepy little retirement town out west.

They even shot a local cow for the leather.

You hardcore union types don't get it. Jerry is going to take care of Skywest Inc. ALPA is going to take care of ALPA. Nobody is really going to take care of the ASA pilots. I will take care of myself. I don't need ALPA speaking for me. When this job isn't worth my time, I will leave and go do something else. I don't expect Jerry or ALPA to take care of me. I can take care of myself.

He already has a job assisting the dispatchers with weather forcast. Everyday Drivel pulls his head out of BL's a$$ and if he sees his shadow there will be 24 more hours of IFR weather. There are several that want to take his job, JB and LJ are trying to make it be based on seniority! JB asked Drivel if he could just look inside and see if he could find the minutes he stole from the LEC meeting a couple of years ago. Drivel told JB that he is in there everyday and if the minutes were there he has not seen them!

You can't be serious. They actually shot LJ for her hide? NO WAY MAN!:)

Ok. I'll ask. Where were the other 1700 ASA pilots? Twenty pilots? Thats pretty weak.

A bunch of the leadership who were going to be in Vegas anyway, put on a dog and pony show and you call it a victory?

I think you miss the signifigance of multiple pilots groups leadership, A carriers and B Carriers alike, coming together to show unity and resolve.

Add this to the fact it took place in front of the largest unorganized pilot group in the country while an organizing drive is going on, and you see a strong statement to management.

If you don't agree, fine. Think what you like. We are better off without you. If you think management cares about you and has your best interest at heart...so be it. Enjoy the Kool-Aid.

My point was this is being driven more by ALPA than by the ASA pilots. ALPA is going to throw the ASA pilots under the bus.

Wow, you can just spin anything against our hard working local volunteers, can't you?

My understanding is that our MEC organized the event, rented the busses from Vegas, and INVITED the other groups as a show of solidarity. It was meant to be a message to Jerry that's he's fighting a NATIONAL UNION not just a disorganized group of commuter pilots.

As for ASA being thrown under the bus, why don't you talk to your buddies at Mesaba or Comair management? We could be a lot worse off over here.
