I find this very hard to believe.

I don't think he was talking about first yr FOs, but rather 1st yr Capts.

For a while, we were junior assigning newhires into the EMB120 Capt position, so the hourly rate was in the mid 40s. Extensions, drafts etc pay time and 1/2. I never heard of any 1st yr Capts making anywhere near 70k though, as most were on reserve and didn't get time and 1/2 for most things.

Huh? If ASA was hiring street captains, first-year pay for the ATR and the RJ/50 is $54/hr
and for the CRJ-700 is $60/hr.
 
yes but.

They have done that one time, I think about 10 people, and I heard it was a bad move in terms of training. They swear it wont happen again. Hiring Capt. off the street, that is.
