any current asa guys tell me the junior base and length of reserve on each a/c at the junior base. also upgrades on each a/c. i know they will be approx times, but im just curious.

also, do you guys still have about 20 atr's left?

thanks

Junior base is Dallas. 19 ATR's (for now).

Upgrades on either aircraft - depends on retirements. A lot of 25 year old Riddle wonders hired during the last boom of 99 and 2000. I really think 6 to 10 years are realistic and could be longer if other airlines don't hire our Captains away.

Several of the FO's I've flown with this month with year 2000 dates of hire have quit because of the lack of upgrade opportunities in ATL and greener pastures in the corporate world. They are great pilots and will be missed.

We are scope constrained and there will only be another 45 aircraft in the Connection system. We have 11 more aircraft coming to ASA, with nothing definate beyond that. Those 11 airplanes, plus the guys that quit, adds up to about 100 new hires.

To be Captain would require another 140 airplanes....

6 to 10 years to upgrade? WOW! I dont think that could last forever could it. I mean we are in a downturn now, but it always seems to turn around.

**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** man, that is pretty depressing! I was in a good mood until I read your post........where do I turn in my letter?

that's the story almost everywhere right now. i think i heard a 17 year upgrade to the baron at flight express.

Right now, it is 3.5 year to upgrade to CR2 Captain in DFW. Also, quite a few of the FO's hired in the last few years with 300 TT will have to have 3,000 TT, 2,000 ME, and 1,000 with ASA to upgrade (flying 500 hours per year, it will take them around 6 years to be qualified to upgrade). Less senior pilots with higher time can pass them by.

But Sleepy, lets be honest with the folks. The 3.5 year RJ Captains in Dallas got in on the last part of the wave while we were hiring 100 pilots a month. Back then we had more growth in one month than we have had in the last two years.

Also consider we still have more than a dozen pilots who were E-120 Captains who were forced to downgrade when the type went away and have not been able to hold the left seat ever again.

The last jet Captain awards in Atlanta went to guys with 18 to 23 years seniority. Obviously it was unusual that you had the #2 guy deciding to change equipment. I'm not telling folks it will take 20 years - but it will take much closer to 10 years than 3 years for today's new hire FO.

ASA more than doubled in size in the last four years, do you think that will happen again? We can hope so, but only under the most favorable circumstances might we get 50 aircraft and only 11 aircraft are on the books for ASA. It is just as likely that we will phase out the 19 ATR's in 2005 and have another displacement bid.

ASA is a good place to fly if you like Dallas and you can make $40 to $50K if you fly your butt off in the right seat of the RJ after a couple of years. But, the days of new hires making $70K flying trip extensions on the E-120 in their first year are gone - probably forever. The guys who did that were at the right place at the right time - like the 200 hour pilots that hired into United in 1967 - 69. Those days just are not likely to return.

Yes, this board is for searching only, how dare someone ask a question that may have been asked before!

Naaa, it was running about 18 months for a while but now that things are moving, they are losing a lot of people and upgrade time is less than a year now and dropping.

I left FLX last August after two years there but still stay in touch with them.

No, I have a friend that is in Captain upgrade right now for the CR2 with 3.5 years with the company. He had to change to DFW to get it, but we have not hired 100 pilots per month since 2001, so this is a new upgrade.

I thinkd the questin was if hired today, how long to upgrade. Yes I belive that if hired today ant ASA, or Comair the upgrade will be allot longer then before. The plane fsct is not to much more growth. Its a pure number game. 11 aircraft is not going to get a newhire today upgraded in 3 years.

When is ASA changing its name to Independence Air?

I think ACA might have a little problem with us if we did that. And it would only confuse the passengers.

~~~^~~~, Were you serious about a first year Fo making $70K a year? Could you explain how this is possible at alittle over $19/HR!
I find this very hard to believe.
I don't think he was talking about first yr FOs, but rather 1st yr Capts.
For a while, we were junior assigning newhires into the EMB120 Capt position, so the hourly rate was in the mid 40s. Extensions, drafts etc pay time and 1/2. I never heard of any 1st yr Capts making anywhere near 70k though, as most were on reserve and didn't get time and 1/2 for most things.
Anyone in their first year will make the same $19/hr whether they were hired as a captain or not.
Huh? If ASA was hiring street captains, first-year pay for the ATR and the RJ/50 is $54/hr
and for the CRJ-700 is $60/hr.
