So what is it like out there the day after ASA and Delta mgmt tell their non union ground labor force that they are all being replaced? Is there anyone there to park the planes? I know half the time there is not anyone there anyway.

I go to work tomorrow, but I have heard that there is no one there.... Everyone said F%#$ IT and quit...

I actually got the impression that some of the rampers were trying harder! We had rampers waiting to park us last night and today!

I guess the ones that are thinking about getting on with Delta figure that they had better work hard to get the job at Delta.

They're all busting their asses. Meanwhile, BL and company are sitting in their offices like always secure in the knowledge that they will be keeping their jobs. Of all the things that have disgusted me at ASA, the ramp labor paying the price for management's gross negligence is now at the top of the list.

So, here's a thought. ASA/Skywest were actually making some kind of a profit by running all the ramp ops in ATL. Now that this is getting pulled from them, they will be losing those profits. My guess...mgmt will now come to the pilots to explain how the "cost box" has just gotten a little smaller due to this and they will now have to reduce pilot costs even more. Of course they will spin it a little nicer than that, but you get the idea.

I really have a feeling that those over on the Kremlin building (aka the G/O) are not feeling too secure right now. This move by Delta has to be the ultimate slap to a known incompetent management team. Look for some of these, if not all, managers to get canned.

BL should never have been selected as Pres of ASA. He was responsible for the ATL ramp before he moved to the top position at ASA, and didn't do anything to fix the ramp operation then.

Funny thing is, all ASA's top managers (BL,CT,TD,GG etc)came from Delta!

WWWWHAAAAAT?????????????????????

After all the years of reading about the crappy ATL ramp, and the "southern work ethic" and having to wait hours to get parked, and hours to get commo, now you're saying that its not their fault. That they have been hard working individuals all along, and this "management overreaction" is not warranted?

Come on, you can't have it both ways.

Yes, and they (the ex Delta managers) haven't been able to get 'er done either! SB was all about promoting SB, which worked out for him. BL gets $750K of stock just after Delta sold ASA to Skywest, and before he really began his job as President of ASA. Crazy stuff.

If Delta is smart they'll move these people around the other Delta concourses too, rotate them, and not keep the same group at C and D. Should be a positive thing for the gate and ramp operation I think.

I don't think you'll ever find any post from me blaming the rank and file workers for ASA's problems.

I agree with you on that one. Until now all I have heard is how bad the ramp is, now all the sudden same people are for the underdog. I think Delta couldn't handle ASA being last and bashed by USA today and others for years. So they finally took the action, not our Mngment. They could not come up with that decision. It was the big dog.

It's true. They're working like I've never seen before. When you ask them why they tell you "we're going to Delta". Sad. The supervisors have been telling the rampers that if they work real hard over the next three months, Delta will hire them. We all know that's not true since Delta thinks the workers are the problem, and isn't going to take on ASA's "baggage".

These people are being lied to just to keep them working, and will be jobless in three months with nothing lined up. Go ASA!

Most of the rampers/gate agents we have are good quality people with a good work ethic. Sadly it is those with poor work ethic that stand out and give the good ones a bad name. I hope that DL will be able to weed out the poor ones and continue to turn our ops team in a positive direction.

Actually, I think the reverse is true. The fixed cost of ASA in terms of labor just went down dramatically.

I dont doubt that the top banannas will try to spin the argument you bring to light though.

ASA is reimbersed for all cost, and paid a flat rate. On top of that ASA is paid a bonus for meeting or beating certain goals, of which we have not capitalized on to the maximum potential payout. This gives us a better opportunity to wash our hands of the worst part of ASA and makes Delta put up or shut up. Time will tell.

Dont be fooled by BL trying to say in the press that this comes as a big shock to ASA and is not a good thing for ASA, exactly the opposite in my opinion.

Sounds to me like BL and the rest of the mis-management team got blind-sided by this "ATL transition". Otherwise, why would they have set up the Ground Equipment Maintenance (GEM) Shop at Delta North? It only opened up as recently as mid-January.

I'm positive it was a total surprise.

I'm sure Delta enjoyed watching ASA management scramble to hire people and spend money to purchase new ground equipment to improve the ramp operation (and it has improved), knowing full well that they would swoop in and take it over in June. It's a typical ASA response -- waiting until the last possible minute to fix things. At that point it was too late.

I am sure the big mistake BL and the boys made was by telling Delta that we couldn't handle the other DCI carriers in ATL anymore. That simple act forced Delta into doing it, and in the process they realized that they could do a better job for the same amount of money.

What happened with the "GSC"? We called for a GPU in range and then as a reminder (courtesy call) I called them on 130.75 once we were on the ground. Upon arrival to the gate there was no GPU. Once one was finally brought over it didnt work! It took another 20 minutes to get one that did work! Ridiculous.
