I've done a search of previous threads trying to find a good AME in the Atlanta/Newnan area who accepts our insurance. I've been to Dr Kauffman but have heard that he now charges the full fee, not just the $15 co pay. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

...funny...I was gonna start a thread on this too...I'm due this month.

Dr. K was forced into charging full price due to big D's restructuring and changes in insurance stuff. :( what a pisser

You can get a medical anywhere and file a claim with insurance. You'll get your money back. It may take a month or two but you'll get it back.

UHC will pay for one "Well Visit", ie a physical or medical, per year. If you go to a doctor in network, then you pay the co-pay for one, and full price for the other one. Both of which are tax deductible. If you go to an out of network doctor, you must pay full price for both of them up front. You can file with UHC for one of them. They will reimburse you the cost of one medical, up to $250.00. If your a FO, your covered for the year. If your a CA, you must pay for one. Make sure you have UHC pay for the medical with the EKG, and you pay for the cheaper one. Hope that helps.

Not always. I've tried this several times and the insurance would not reimburse me.

Try Dr. Williams (770-955-2046) on Delk road. He takes the 15$ copay. You have to call for an apointment. Downside is it may take 2-3 hours of just sitting, whereas the medical itself will take 15 minutes..He deals mostly with immigrants and low income families, so that's the reason for the long sitting.

Intercultural Diversity/Sensitivity Training?

Uh no, "Immigrants", meaning those of a non US citizenship, and low income families, meaning those without health insurance who can't afford medical care. He's a very noble man to help those that are less fortunate.

Used Doc Williams many times. Good for physicals, no BS. Show early and you may get out in an hour. I also showed once at 11:00 and was done within an hour.

In my case UHC didn't reimburse me. They just applied the amount towards my yearly deductable.

Do you ASA guys know what the minimums are to get on with your company? Site says 1200/100 or reduced mins for crj training. If you have 121 time will they reduce the mins at all? Thank you

The only requirement (aside from a pulse and an IQ if 100) is the abilty to not hijack threads for personal gain on Flightinfo.com

Well, I just made an appointment with Dr. Williams so I'll let you know how it goes. Sounds like I might be in for a lengthy sit in the waiting room so I'll take a good book but if he takes our insurance, it's worth the wait...

Reporting back...

Well, I got my medical at Dr. Williams and it was pretty much as reported in previous posts. When I first got there, I only sat in the waiting room for long enough to fill out the forms before I was taken back for the basics (height, weight, BP, urinalysis). Anna is a hoot and be sure to tell her you speak Spanish even if you don't so she and the girls don't talk smack about you. The big wait comes when you're waiting for the Doc to get to you (almost 2 hours in my case), but there were at least 3 other pilots back there while I was so at least you've got someone to shoot the sh1t with while you're waiting.

The good news is that I can verify that they did take ASA's insurance and even faxed a copy into the company for me. As was said before, if you can fog a mirror, you'll have no trouble getting signed off. It was a bit of a drive coming from the south side but worth it in the end, I would definitely recommend Dr. Williams for those ASA folks on a budget...

I just visited Dr. Arnall at the Papp clinic in Newnan. Easy, and quick. In and out in about an hour. In the morning before 10 am. $75.

I have also tried to find a DOC on the southside that takes United healthcare. What I don't understand is why Williams can file with a co-pay and others such as Doc Walker in PTC who takes UHC says UHC won't cover an FAA medical.

How is Williams filing this with UHC and why do I have to drive 100 miles to see him?

When are you going to learn to not ask questions when you're better off not knowing the answer? Doc Williams takes our insurance with a $15 co pay twice a year for your medical. WHO CARES how he bills it!!! DON'T ASK!!!!!
