ASA phone screening

I just had a phonecall from an ASA recruiter. We spoke about what I've been up to recently, when I told him that I'm in the process of looking for a new CFI job in the Central Florida area. We spoke for some more and he said that it's good what I'm doing (whatever than means) and that once I've grounded my feet instructing I should apply back 'shortly'. I never did ask (though I think I should have), but is there a minimum time before I can reapply?? By the way, I don't have the 100hrs in the last 6 mths (more like 50!) There's no way I could have sweet talked my way around that. Should I feel stupid for letting an 'opportunity' go by, or there's no way I'd have met the 100hrs in 6 mths, so don't feel stupid, just reapply in the future? Also, do I have to wait a certain time frame before I reapply?

I met the 600 and 100TT minimum they have.

From the sounds of it, the 100/6 mo is the more important minimum to meet. I'd worry about getting that and then reapply. They're really afraid of people coming in and not being up to sim training and I doubt they'll bend the 100 hours unless they are really hurting for people.

I know the time to reapply after interviewing is 6 months... but since you never really interviewed, I'd say just send them a new resume once you meet their mins again.

From what I can tell from the phone screening that I had, they are looking for somebody, not only with 100+ hours in the last 6 months, but also for somebody that's been flying more than standard equipment, e.g. - more than just 2 vor's and an ndb. They asked what kind of nav equipment we had in the 421, and she sounded impressed when I said a 530, RMI, 2 HSI's, and an MFD. But, that's just what I got out of the conversation. I got the application package in the mail yesterday, and FedEx'd it back to them today.

I faxed in the resume last Monday and got a phone call on Wednesday.

I agree with you, there are many 135 SIC jobs out there. You gotta pay for them, but you can get great experience. That is how I got my feet wet, I started applying after 100+ hours of flying in a Navajo, then the company I was working for hired me as a captain. Been doing that for a year happily, and now I have a slot waiting for me at ASA. Waiting for my class date.

George Dubya - I think i sent the email in like last week on Thursday (I make that May 26th). Got a call today (1st June). Not so bad (very good actually) I think in terms of timing.

Send your stuff back in as soon as you get the 100 in 6 months. Once the ball gets rolling, the process happens fast. The interview process is really laid back and was actually a pretty good experience.
