Where would you go if you were offered a job at ASA and American Eagle today?

I'm most interested in QOL. Which one could I build seniority the quickest so I could bid a good domicile.

Any other work factors? work rules, upgrade times, equipment, contract re-negotiation dates, morale, plans for growth?

Thanks
Eric

its all a crapshoot my friend. Things change daily in this buisness so go with whoever offers you the first class date id say.

Yeah, why?

Probably because it seems like everybody at Eagle hates it because of AMR's managment style and APA bullsh*t. Just my observation...

Eagle has more bases, flies more varied equipment, and is a larger company. They are poised for growth, at least the next couple years. Current contract lasts until what, 2013? Despite this, it could be a good place to be if you get in soon. I seem to recall seeing somewhere prop CA is 4.5 years now, jet 6 years. Try www.eaglelounge.com for more info.

ASA is also getting more planes, that is if they don't get whipsawed away during their upcoming contract negotiations, and its a safe bet they will get a contract AT LEAST equal to Comair.

I agree with the other poster, take the first class date you get and don't look back. Best of luck to you...

I know 4 ASA pilots that are ex Eagle.

Never heard of a single ASA pilot leaving to go to Eagle.

As far as QOL, what are your priorities? DFW base is about the only common factor. Pay varies a little, with ASA being a bit higher, but not so much that it should be the only factor in your decision. Also, look at things like medical, retirement, non reving, etc.

That being said, I have to agree, go with the first one that offers you a class date.

There were several pilots at Eagle that left in 2000-early 2001 to go to ASA. I was almost one of them.

2nd Year FO pay $35K at asa? Its 33.80 per hour with a 75 hr garantee. = $30420. If you count per diem and under/over block you probably get $35k.

If you count per diem .....

I've never understood why people factor per diem into their compensation. Per diem is meant to be a "reimbursement" for costs you would otherwise not incur or be minimized if you were at home.

Year 2 pay at Eagle is 29.74/hr on the RJs. If you get a prop as a new hire, you'll be able to hold the jet when your 12 month seat lock is up. Every new hire is paid the same first year regardless of equipment.

As far a Eagle pilots who went to ASA, I interviewd and was hired as an off the street captain, but decided to stay put. Go to the first one and sort it out later.

I'm Taking Eagle!

Good advice from everybody. Sure, some regionals pay more than others and some have a better QOL. However my friends at Eagle are happy and I am thrilled to have the opportunity. I interviewed, they offered and I am Eagle Bound in a few weeks.

I Hate Freight!

ASA is getting more planes? Not to sure about that. Eagle has 80 firm orders and 25 options. Thats 105 aircraft. ASA has maybe 25 "phatom" aircraft. The newhires that started today will have 1000 pilots under them in 2 years at Eagle. Any base you want at Eagle before ground school is over (aircraft specific).
