I thought PBS was fine until the last couple of months when they raised the min threshold from 75hrs to 89hrs (FO 700). For those of us who like to maximize time off, this is not cutting it. I will vote no for PBS if we get the chance next time.

I got 10 naps worth 85 hours. 1 set of 4 days off and another with 5! My schedules have definitely improved with PBS. I did have 6 hours of carry over though.

Im junior on the 700 since DTW opened but I still got a great sched again. I think some of you just are not bidding correctly. I got 15 days off 3 and 4 day mix.

I've had the best schedule ever as a CA with PBS, only complaint it the high threshold and length of time to be awarded. It's not hard guys.

So why so we have so many guys on reserve? It's been 15-20% the last few months and increasing! Didn't they promise like 10%ish reserve with PBS?

No it's not hard but some of us don't like to be forced to work 85-89 hours. At least with line bidding we could choose to fly some of the 68-75 hour lines.

I get what you are saying, but they could do the exact same thing with line bids! They just make all the lines 85-90 hrs and that's all you would have to pick from! And they could have the same crappy pairings and keep all lines but a few to min days off! They have before. This is not a PBS problem and lines would not make it any better. You'd just be picking an 87 hr line with min days off.

PBS is a nice tool and all. It keeps a few off reserve and helps out come vacation but couldn't we get just a little more from the company for what we gave them? How about no Jr manning, or no calling scheduling after reserve duty, an extra bus on the bus route. Anything?

OK, how are some of the other pilots getting and award with less than 89hours on the 700FO side when the min was 89hrs? These are not pilots with carrover of vacation.

After the bid closed, the bottom of the credit window was readjusted from 89 to 85 hours. I don't know if that means we're slightly overstaffed on the 700 or what.

I don't understand that either. I did it to myself when I allowed single days off on a non vacation month. It took what would have been a nice 80+ hr block line and jammed two extra three days in there and unfortunately I was senior enough to hold them, where as somebody junior to me didn't have any three days or two days left when it came time to complete the credit window. I'll never allow single days off again. What the F is the point of bidding low credit threshold when we are required to complete with 89 credit hours. I do like PBS better, but I hate the pairings and hate the pricks in charge on both sides. Inept management.

It is and it is not a PBS problem. PBS allows the company to build crappy pairing and puts the onus on us to make the lines. If your line turns out crappy, then it is your fault. This takes all the pressure off of them, because you made your line. If they were still building lines, they would have to produce better pairings to achieve the line values they are setting now, or have some lines with low credit.

Its actually true that the ALPA guys know the PBS system better than she does. The company just knows how to say no to a bid run.

So, back on topic, What is the new name going to be?

It probably means that 89 was an unrealistic minimum value. If most of the high efficiency pairings go senior, I imagine it would be difficult to complete many of the junior pilots' schedules before exceeding minimum days off. The bottom of the credit window has been lowered during the bid runs more often than not. The company is trying to get by with too few pilots and it obviously isn't working out like they'd hoped.
