Just like that huge turn out at the airport during picketing!! Where would we have a meeting at the airport. The company doesn't allow ALPA events on company property.

Just a guess, but you missed the part where it says 11 MEC/LEC members. Do you know the difference? Probably the MEC officers, LEC officers, and some committee people.

I didn't say that there were 11 MEC "members" at the meeting. I said 11 MEC/LEC "people". Here is the breakdown for you. 3 MEC officers, 3 LEC officers, 4 committee chairmen, and 1 NC member. 11 total. Actually there were a couple other committee members. Less than 30 members who didn't hold positions within the union. Is that better?

I got a kick out of inclusive scope trying to convince the entire room that we should lay down at the feet of mangment because the managers are lining thier pockets with our hard earned money, and the "industry" is not doing good right now! Pretty funny SCOPE..

What's funny is you taking what I said out of context. I added my opinions which differ from those of the MEC and NC. Here are the points I made. Feel free to actually provide some evidence that counters what I believe.

1. JR was asked whether the NMB could "park" us. JR answered that was a possibility, but wasn't to concerned about it. I simply added to his answer by explaining what happened in '98. You see, of everyone that was in the room, I was the only one who has actually negotiated in front of an NMB member. In '98, we were parked and that was with a much more favorable NMB. At that time, there were 2 Democrats and 1 Republican. Now there is 1 Democrat and 2 Republicans.

2. I then added that both the industry and the company (DAL) are in much worse shape than they were in '98. You seem to be making the same mistake that others have made by underestimating the seriousness of the situation that the legacy carriers find themselves in. I believe that our corporation is on the verge of BK. I also believe that it would be in our best interest to wrap this up before that happens as things will get worse in BK. Whether or not individual managers have or haven't "lined their pockets" is irrelevant to what our strategy should be.

3. My next point was that as the industry continues to deteriorate and we are forced to compete with other pilot groups, we will continue to see the industry average move backwards.

4. Bob then painted me as a "doomsdayer". He cautioned against listening to the "doomsdayers". I would caution people against believing everything the die hard "chest thumpers" say.

5. In support of what Bob said, someone mentioned the "great" contract that XJT just got. I corrected them by actually providing some of those pesky "facts". The second and third year FO payrates are less than our current rates. Capt. rates and perdiem are lower than CMR. They did not achieve rigs. In fact, nobody has achieved rigs since CMR did and some mainline carriers have given theirs away. Finally, I pointed out that the XJT MEC actually justified ratification of the agreement because they didn't think they would get released and they were worried that they might get a worse deal later. I tend to agree with the XJT MEC.

At no point did I try "to convince the entire room that we should lay down at the feet of mangment because the managers are lining thier pockets with our hard earned money".

Do you have any evidence or facts you would like to add to these points that were made, or are you content to just blindly go along with the program?

I think you have some valid concerns but think you are out numbered in your beliefs. I don't agree with everything our MEC does or how they do it, and I let them know personally when I think there are wrong. That’s just how the system works whether we like it or not. Maybe if everyone would quit trying to blame each other or complain about our $hitty management and find a way to work together and make things happen it would be a better use of every ones time and energy.

It won't matter if we have a new contract (better or worse than our current one) or not if DAL goes into BK. We will have to take concesions or the BK court will force them on us when management asks for them. Just look at what happen to the wholly owns of USAir (allegheny, piedmont and PSA).

My point exactly....If we are going to have whatever we agree to screwed with why not start as high as possible before they start slashing. Kind of like negotiating, you start high and meet in the middle.

I guess he's not the only one with anger management issues. I evidentally also have the problem. My first reaction to ASA Drivers post was "what an As%Hole" .

ASA Driver needs to check out the website for the law firm used by ASA management and see what their "specialties" are. (Or wait, he's probably one of the ones that hired them). Fighting unions appears to be one of the areas of expertise listed in their summary.

Management could not have hired a better law firm to try and "union bust" than they did. This is apparently the only thing right our company can do, hire a really good law firm. They can't staff properly, cater, service, or dispatch an aircraft out on time without problems, or treat their employees with dignity and respect. But they can hire a really good law firm to save them money (they think) at negotiations. The money saved NOW costs them unforeseen, immeasurable amounts of money down the road in hidden costs. But wait, that would be asking for the company to look further down the road than one hour and 59 minutes from now (when they short call/draft you for a trip that they have known about in open time for three days).

This industry has so much corruption in management that all they are really looking out for is their own paycheck, and what they will put on their resume to get the next airline management job when the run the present company into the ground. Few of the airline "management" people could even get a job outside this industry that pays them close to the same amount of money. The ones that do it right, like SWST, Jetblue, etc. don't seem to drink the same kind of "Kool -aid" that the rest do. I have yet to meet a SWST pilot who hates their company like most of us do. They actually seem to enjoy their place of employment. The sad thing is, I really enjoy my job, and the flight crews I work with, outstation people, etc. are awesome. It is the whole ATL/MGMT/Quality of life/Scheduling thing that sucks so bad. They could make it better, they just don't have any motivation to. IT'S ALL ABOUT THEM!

The long term effect of pissing off all of the pilots is that the ones who can leave at some point in the future for greener (or even browner) pastures will, further hurting their ability to properly staff the airline. If we are SOOOOOO SHORT right now on pilots, why have there been so few awards lately for new positions? I am so tired of crew scheduling, drafting and all of the other B.S. at ASA. This company will NEVER be able to get it together, at least not in the 28 years I have left in my career. This is the not the first regional airline I have worked at, just the worst. I would have never come here several years ago if I knew what I was getting myself into.

A lot of emotions on this board, but the facts are that management is/has been playing a long, drawn out game with ASA pilots for several years now. Their time is coming.
