pay isn't everything...it's a lot, but it's not everything. i'd like to have a good life away from the job myself

That's why having a line is 100x's better. Set schedule, more days off, more pay, no ready reserve.

Pay isn't everything, but $2200 Take home on the 15th is alot better than $1100 take home. That's over $12,000 difference after a year. One reserve pilot making 37k with 11 days off a month and triple the gas costs of a lineholder FO making around 50K with 12-15 days off.

You are the buttplug of the seniority list there is no way you are making 50K. You'd have to credit 115hrs a month to make that much on your pay rate. Maybe once in a while, shut your piehole and listen to people who have been around a bit longer and know what's going on.

P&H, you have little to no reading comprehension skills whatsoever. I don't know where you went to school but you need to get your money back if you gathered that I said I was making 50k. Geez.......

You'll have to excuse me, I usually just roughly skim everything you write in order to avoid the bulk of the crap in your posts. Either way, my point still stands. Even your average lineholding FO can't make 50K except in extreme circumstances.

Not true, I made about 62k as a reserve 700 capt. This year I'll make about 57k. It ain't that hard, I admit I'm at work a little more than I want, but 50 seems like a breeze.

You're going to have to clue me in on the details of that one. The most senior 700FO earns 45/hr.

Let's say you consistently flew 110 hours a month. That comes to $59,400. Let's figure per-diem, I'll give you $300.00/mo, generous. Then yes, this scenario would be true. But few people credit 110/mo 12 months out of the year. NOT with the trips we have today. Can't speak for 5 years ago.

Tell me what I'm missing.. I'd love to make double what I make now.

6th year FO back in the right seat on the 700....

through 4/30 paycheck total gross $20,530 - works out to $61590 for the year

through 5/15 paycheck total gross $24,370 - roughly $64,900 for the year

Averaging 101.9 hrs of credit per month. I get roughly $425 per month in per diem. I have already had 2 training events and 1 vacation period this year. Usually have 13-14 days off per month.

$60,000- $65000 is definitely feasible.

I never dreamed of crediting that much consistently. That's not bad. If you're senior enough to be able to pick up trips it could work.

Not everyone is in your shoes. Just because everyone is not in your position does not mean that things are impossible. Looks like I'm not the only one who has figured it out.

Roughly skim? I think you're just slow...Can't make 50k except in extreme circumstances?!? You're completely out of touch with reality! You're the same person that was complaining how reserves don't get paid more than 75hrs no matter how much they credit unless they block over 75hrs! You keep making not only false but ridiculous posts and tell me to be quiet? Donny, you're out your element!

Looks like PositionandHold rode the short bus to work....

Respectfully, if you are an FO taking home $2200 a month, you probably need to look into upping your 401K contributions... just sayin'.

This week, I've been riding the short bus all over the place guy.

Touche. However, on the 50 seater, you'd have to have spent some years here to break the 50 mark consistently. Obviously, "extreme circumstances" was poor word choice.

Are you saying $2200 take home is too much and more needs to be put into retirement?

Well, yes. Do you have a wife and kids? Only my opinion, but what are you spending the money on? Beer? Cars?

If you are in your early to mid 20's, and not attached to things that take your resources; like kids and family, you will be far better off later in life if you start putting some money away now instead of waiting until your 30's.

I am learning this the hard way. I am kicking myself for not understanding the concept of 'compound interest' Trust me on this...

Me too. It's amazing what starting in your early to mid 20's will do for you in retirement. Unfortunately, our society doesn't teach us about finances growing up in school, and unless our parents teach us, many of us find out way too late in life.

On a similar note, I have flown with FO's who haven't even set up their 401K accounts yet. FREE MONEY PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

That's because they need that money for food...

By the way I just saw an ASA CA, it could have been Delta on an escalartor at ATL. he had a sid opened up and was reviewing it. Come on dude, in the terminal, on an escalaor in front of everyone else?? I was so embarrassed for him, he looked like a bus driver unsure of the route.

Another advantage of lot 3!!

I got it set at 5% right now. Student loans almost paid back. Once that happens I'm bumping the 401k up to 15% maybe even 20%

I'm not telling you what to do, but if you bump it up to 6% you'll get more of a company match and you probably won't notice the difference...

Not sure what the matching chart says, but at least get the full amount the company will match. Depending on what other types of debt you may have (credit card, loans, etc) I would take the difference from the company match and the 15-20% you are talking about and pay that stuff off.

Needless to say, it sounds like 777 has his head in the right direction.
