ASA Folks,

I flew as a pax on your new CRJ700 (or is it 900??) this afternoong and I have to tell it, what a great plane from a passenger standpoint. Seats were comfortable, ample storage for light carry-ons. Smooth ride (although back in the cheap seats the engine noise is a bit loud....but ya get what you pay for, right!).

Just one note. We were delayed due to a mechanical problem, specifically, and anti-ice message in the cockpit. How do I know this? The fine captain on board giving his passenger talk decided to go into the intimate details of the delay. Anti-ice problem, maintenance worked on it, "looks like it's working fine and was a false indication.....uh......this is one electrical jet" (yes, the direct quote from the PA).

As a pilot, little things like that are understandable and didn't bother me a bit to know. However, to the average passenger who knows nothing about this, going into details of a "problem", talking "electrics", "messages on the screen in front" etc, did cause some worry with the passengers seated around me. Maybe next time you can come up with a different way of putting things.

I'm really not trying to be critical here. Just some friendly advise, mono-a-mono. I'd hate to see an engine have to be shut down and have unknowing passengers around me listen to the minute details of why!

Other than that, great crew all around and very nice aircraft!

It's called automation!

Them new contraptions are getting way to complicated! The 700 and 900 are some of the most automated systems you can get. Very difficult for flight crews to master in short time. I can assure you that the Captain of that aircraft is a very experienced individual. To be a Captain on the 700 at ASA, you have to be one of the most senior individuals we have. I can also assure you that if there was any question of aircraft safety, you never would have flown. Many times the crew is saying, "so now what is it doing" or "it's doing that thing again". But, no matter what happens, the crew knows how to fly it Raw data (without the automation). The whole thing boils down to Human factors. Integration with automation. It has growing pains on both sides, flight crews and manufacturer. Many of our 70 seaters are already getting upgrades to keep the fleet as modern as possible. Anyway, thanks for the compliments as many of the mainline guys seem to think that all of the pax hate the RJ's. I have had several individuals tell me how much they love the RJ's to include many of my neighbors. ;)

Not completely true. I've been here 3+ years and won't give my age, but it's a great airplane. Softwares are being updated- mostly indication issues. Safe and fun airplane. Cheers!

...if you consider 3 years to be senior. However, 3 years' service does get you into the top 50% of the pilot list.

But when will you get to hold even a nap line '2005, 2006". And how is that 1oo hours in type working out?? Cheers.

Tim,

I never said it wasn't safe! All I said was to the uninformed passenger, it was a little too much information. You could tell them there was a blue streak on the belly and that would be more than they need to know.

I think the proper announcement would be something like:

"Ladies and gentlemen, we're sorry for the delay this afternoon but we had an indication and requested maintenance to check it out. There was no problem but we do apologize for any inconvenience."

We all say the mech's out working on the plane, so we know there was a problem. Just didn't need to be so specific, IMHO.

Surveys show that passengers want to know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We are specifically instructed to tell all, substituting simplicity for the sake of brevity in technical cases.

Anyone at ASA know in what trash can I can find one of those passenger briefing cards? Those things were classic.

100 Hrs in type not an issue becasue I aquired many more on the -200; it is the same type. Secondly, I play Mr. Mom while my wife is at work, reserve will be fine for a year or two. Thirdly, I wasn't boasting in the least, just a lousy post. If you want my job, then bid it. Reserve is a nice life on the -700 (fingers crossed....)

Maybe the comair and asa guys can answer this one. what is the required differences training from the 200-700??

ground school??

Sim???
checkrides???

thanks

Hey, I heard all the new ASA -700 orders were going to Comair, and you guys would be furloughing soon. Anyone else hear this?

If Dalpa allows any more furloughs as concessions to Delta, you can bet a lot of the newer 70 seaters (maybe not the 57 already slated for ASA/Comair) will be going to the furloughed Delta pilots.
Enjoy!

Bye Bye--General Lee:cool: ;)

Now here's a suprise! General Lee, attemting to hijack yet another thread so he can argue about Delta/Comair/ASA scope issues. Oh hooray.

Instead of FAMs, they should have FIMs (Fed. Internet-thread Marshalls) to try and meet, head-on, the death-by-boredom threat this presents to innocent bystanders on the information highway.

I imagine the furloughs will happen regardless of what Dalpa allows or not. But I'm sure instead of working together Dalpa will push for the creation of yet another wholly owned sub.

Yes I heard that, too. But there is more. ASA will cease opearations. So will DAL mainline. They are just going to shut down the whole shootin' match and turn it all over to Comair.

This will help mend the bruised egos in CVG and bolster the notion that the world revovles around Comair, the world's best airline.

Not exactly.

We have 4 CRJ 700 deliveries that are delayed. They were supposed to be on property by the April 6 launch of expanded DFW operations. However, due to the ongoing a/c maint and AD problems these deliveries are extended to 1 per month.

The aircraft engines are a serious issue as well as the new fuel AD.

As far as the furlough issue we have continued to interview approximately every week. No announcement of any new classes though.

Flight attendants were offered non paid leaves of absence. I only wish the pilots would get the same offer so I can take an extended vacation !!!!!

Regarding the General Lee's comments. The walls are closing in on the mainline pilots. Leo just insulated his retirment fund in a trust so any bankruptcy proceedings will not affect his compensation. Delta announced today that it can no longer borrow funds unsecured and will be unable to borrow secured funds by the end of the year.

Yeah,
The world revolves around Comair. That's what I meant to say. Why would you come up with such a thing? Are other people really that mean to you?

He metro,
There you go again, jumping all over someone and making something out of nothing. At least we know why General Lee is a jerk, but you have no such excuse. Have you ever considered yourself to be an jerk?

General Lee a jerk???

It stands to reason that you would think so. I find him to be pretty level headed. Just because you don't like the message doesn't make him a jerk.

Me that is another story. I am difficult to get along with. Everyone I know says so. So you can't be too far off base. Thanks for the insight.
