It sounds like some new hires are getting the 700. Just wondering how long the reserve typically is and what the monthly flight times are. Are the international destinations more senior?

Reserve can be a long time or it may short. Lots of movement right now with a few more 700's coming and guys upgrading. Some FO's are returning to the 200 for better QOL (top 100 on the 200 instead of scratching the left overs on the 700). Six months could be a fairly good guess. But we'll see how this new reserve thing pans out. I may bid for some to get that long call if coverage is good for the month.

International destinations don't really fall into the seniority thing. You'll get your fair share of BJX, YYZ, YUL, etc.
 
Once again, it really depends. I ran into a guy on reserve that was taking the airplane and he said he had a full beard when they called. He hadn't flown for 19 days. With the winter schedule here, you may be sitting around quite a bit because the lines are considerably of less value than during the summer months. Typically, I would fly around 95 hours a month.

However, if the coverage is there, you probably will not break guarantee. You'll fly around 70 hours and that will be it. There is no sense in flying guys over that if you have others sitting doing nothing.

Seat lock will be 12 months I believe.
 
Reserve on the 700 is longer than 6 months right now, and people are not flying. Hell, I have been here almost 2 years and am barely holding a hard line. Friends of mine who are on reserve are flying about 20-30 hours a month, tops.
 
Last prelim. had a handful of 70 F/Os awarded 50 F/O slots. It couldn't happen with our old contract; but, it may be a loophole in the new one (haven't looked it up).
 
Just read it. I gues you can bid up and have a freeze of 18 months, but if you bid back to the lower pay you get a 24 month freeze.

2 years huh? I've been there 1.9 and I'll be over half way up the 700 fo list.

I assume that you were in the 3/27 class. When there are only 170 pilots on the 700, it doesnt take much to be over halfway up the list. Those of us who were displaced to the 700 ended up getting pushed back, so much so that I am lower on the list now than i was in Nov of last year. Also, I said almost 2 years, not 2 on the dot.
 
Why does ASA make such a big deal out of the -200 and -700? Can't you get like a differential pay, and fly both, and not be limited to one, or is this just another way management pits pilots against each other.

hmm well then I've been here "almost 2 years" and would have no problem holding a line or am I wrong.

It's not ASA, it's the pilots. We have a separate pay rate for the -700 and don't have to fly both interchangeably. This because we choose not to. Management would love it if we flew both.
 
Is reserve lasting long anywhere anymore? I would say that even though we are in a slow travel period, be prepared to work. Being on the 70 seater is a lot better of an airplane that the 50. IMHO. But would go back without hesitation for the upgrade.
