As I was browsing the lines for OCT, slightly better, but not great, I noticed there will be an overnight on the 200 in EYW on Friday nights.

1) How are going to carry any sort of payload to/from KATL?
2) I thought this was a special qual airport for Capt's? Since none of us have been checked out, I dont see how it going to work. Maybe more time off???It's a short overnight anyways...

Just another example of poor oversight from the LeBroke Lavatory.

edit....
I get it...take off declare min fuel and divert to KMIA, get gas and continue. Makes good sense to me. But it does mean I would have to do a RIF everytime. I hate paperwork.

It is no longer a Capt. only airport, it is only special qual. just like ROA. So Capt or FO can make the take off and landings there, you no longer need special training to go in there. They will probably only sell 40 or so seats , on the 700 the would only sell 64 seats. Flaps 20 should be no problem in and out of EYW.

Good luck with that!

What are the restrictions out of APF? Does 200' make that much difference...then again, yes it does.

When I was at PSA we would do FLL - EYW and that was weight restricted, US Airways was selling 50 tickets to those flights though when we first started doing it. So that was always ugly. You certainly don't have a lot of gas, I can only imagine it would be worse from ATL.
I still remember a scheduler calling me one morning in FLL saying that we had a change, we are now flying Ft. Lauderdale direct to Newark. I guess EWR and EYW look alike.. haha.

Flaps 20 might work but I think we'd be hard pressed to get a full 40 seater out of there. I don't have numbers in front of me but I've never had a max of 40 pax coming out of APF. If memory serves the max TO weight is right around 47,000 for temps in the mid 20s and EYW being 200' shorter and 100 miles farther than APF won't help things.

I can't imagine how short that runway looks in the RJ.
I used to fly APF and EYW in a J-31/32 and a B1900D AND it looked short even in those!
Multiply that with higher landing speeds and a funky nose-down attitude.

I have to pull the seat cushion out of my arse after every takeoff in APF.

I do the same in EYW after every landing, except it's usually because we hit so hard.

ASA has operated several charters into EYW on 40 seaters. Think they can even go full (40) with no alternate.

Hey....that's great. You can get in....you sure as hell can't get out though. I've had plenty of PAF trips lately, and we're always weight limited.

Send an ATR in..... we'll get 66 out......

You want puker factor.... 33R BOS in a Dash 8.... Nice 2500'!!!! Lovely.. Water on both ends.... Take about Carrier Deck landings!!

Try Tortolla, BVI.....at night. EYW is cake.

Eastern and National used to fly the 727 out of EYW.

Big difference... 727 had slats and was designed to be a short-field airplane. A CRJ 200 was most definitely not designed to do that.

How about TEX (Telluride)? Lose an engine there and you're pretty limited at nearly 10k.

:rolleyes:Um....Yeah...McFly...hello McFly, the 727 has THREE ENGINES! Just a "TAD" more power than the 700's. The 200's are an accident waiting to happen! WAAAAAYYYYY Underpowered!

There's a big difference between Boeings and a stretched out bizjet with no leading edge devices. 727 was a real airliner.

I did take a quick look at the APG yesterday....at 22c about 44500 MTOW...take bow and fuel out...leaves with 29 pax and no bags.

For landing, limited with no wind to 45k thereabouts.

This aircraft to/from KATL seems to be a marketing/revenue management mistake. DAL will pay the price from bumped bags and people.

Even though we "lost" a 700, this should be on of the last places to remove them from service.

Actually we are short 2 70ish seat aircraft thanks to our great marshallers in KATL. The ATRs were leaving anyways.
