I heard a rumor that in an effort to end negotiations in a hurry Skip offered us the Comair contract on the first day of negotiations. Is there any truth to this? I heard a side note to that rumor that it was actually Comair + 1%. If anyone can confirm or deny this I would appreciate it.

Even IF it's true (don't know myself) , remember, that was like 3 years ago, and things were a lot different then, and we had visions of something better than CMR +1%. Just my guess though.

It's not true. The company offered a pay increase with no rules changes. Any QOL issues would've resulted in concessions from the offered pay. It's a typical negotiating tactic.

Think about it. In Sep 02, considering the economic climate, if the company had offered CA's contract we would've taken it. There was widespread commentary that if we got the work rules we wanted that we maybe would've kept the pay the same. But the company has missed that boat.

They want a cost neutral contract. If that is corrected for the growth of the company, the cost of living, the growth in the economy and mgmts own pay and our increasing revenues/load factor maybe we'll talk. But a flat out cost neutral contract equates to a pay cut.

In the beginning Skip said he wanted the contract wrapped up in a year, that was 2 1/2 years ago. So, was he lying, or are the ASA negotiators disobeying him? This has become more about egos than sensible negotiations.

I get the feeling that Skip doesn't have all that much "pull" with the pace of these negotiations. He talked of wanting them finished at the Operational Propaganda class last year and he didn't really have an answer when I asked him why he didn't put pressure on the Company negotiators to finish it up.

Of course Chick Tickletoe was standing next to him at the time so maybe he didn't want to step on any toes.

You know. Nothing we debate on here does any good. What we need to do is support our union. If you have the day off show up for the pickets. Do not go to the gate to get the release. Do not call for fuel. Do not help. Fly the SP's. Fly our contract. Most of all SUPPORT OUR UNION

You should be flying strictly to contract at this point. Malicious compliance is easy and FUN!

As JC Lawson once said

This is the same JC Lawson that signed the concessionary LOA?

Remember that several people who were involved at the time advocated taking CMR's pay, Bfund, Rigs, and leaving the rest alone. Our logic was that things will probably get worse and our leverage will slowly erode. Let's take what we can. The majority involved at the time did have "visions of something better". Visions are fine, but sometimes common sense is better. The MEC was wrong and now we will all suffer.

I will support my UNION when it starts acting in the best interests of the ASA pilot group.
