Hahahahahahahahahahahahah......HHHHHHAAAAAAhhhhahahahhhhahahahahahah ....

Whew.....I'm out of breath!!!! As the previous poster said, "F'em"

I don't remember a summer where they have not offered the buy back of vacations or threatened of possible cancellation. This seem to be standard for ASA.

People....they don't want to upgrade and hire for 3 months, to only have to furlough and downgrade in Sept. It sucks for us on the front line, but which would you rather if you were one of the ones to downgrade or lose your job? The biggest problem is the major difference in the summer flying to the fall flying! We may lose 30+% of our block hours this fall.

It is idiots like this guy who screw over the other pilots. What a *************************.

You gjys have them on the ropes. At SKYW thy offered 2X for the CRJ in June, SAPA said 2X for everybody or no thanks.
The folded in less than 24 hours, and gave everybody 2X, bet if ya all just said no for 2 weeks you could get 3X toot sweet!
Bend em over, drive it home, and snap it off flush!

How is this screwing over the pilots?

He's probably right. I'd rather the company run through the summer with what it's got than spend money hiring/training pilots just to get them out of IOE in time to furlough them in October.

How in the HELL am I screwing over other pilots???? WTF are you talking about? I have not done one thing-EVER-to screw over other pilots. I am simply explaining why the company chooses to limp through the summer months understaffed, because they know there will be a MAJOR LOSS of block hours in the fall. Any pilots they upgrade may have to go back to the right seat after a few months, and they wouldn't want to furlough any new hires in the fall. As much as we HATE it, it is probably a better, wiser business decision due to the costs of the training. Would you want to hire on, and be let go in a few months?

Now, please explain how I'm and idiot and how I'm screwing ANYBODY over????

Don't get yours in a wad, just enjoy your vacation or sell it back. They've offered buybacks for years in the summer months, guess what: a lot of others do that too. Even the majors!! the company can't figure out how to build the pairings efficiently enough. Excuse me, the company nor the association can figure out how to build the pairings efficiently enough. So if 79%n1 has figured it out or even asked management the question and got that answer don't hate the player; hate the game.

IF the company started canceling vacations, then I buy the argument that they have failed royally.

I disagree they have done this for "years" They did it LAST year but not the several years prior

Relax, any pilot with a level head and common sense agrees with you. Don't let that moron get your blood pressure up.

While I would like to say I agree with you, we were short staffed in Feb, Mar and Apr, too. Those aren't normally busy months and we were extending line holders and flogging reserves in those months already. Not to mention that attrition is slowly starting to pick back up (can't wait to see what happens when the REAL hiring starts)...

It's too late to do anything about it for this Summer but management saw this coming a long time ago. Can't wait to get the next apology letter, its gonna be a LONG Summer, BOHICA!

A better business decision would be to staff the summer block hours so we don't lose revenue and then offer 60, 40, or 0 hr lines during the fall/slow months. I would gladly take a month off during college football season!
