Delta Invites Customers to Improve Their Handicap With New Service to Hilton Head, Expanded Service to Myrtle Beach
Monday December 18, 9:00 am ET
Daily service between the world's largest hub and South Carolina golf havens give customers convenient options for spring and summer travel
ATLANTA, Dec. 18, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta will make it easier for customers to hone their putting skills starting this spring with new or expanded nonstop service between Atlanta and two of the most popular U.S. golf resort destinations. Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines will offer new nonstop seasonal service between Hilton Head, S.C. and Atlanta, from March 17 through Sept. 4, 2007. Also this summer, Delta will add seat capacity between Atlanta and Myrtle Beach, S.C., upgrading an existing flight to the larger, two-class 142-seat MD-88 aircraft.

``Whether customers want more time on the green or a relaxing day at the beach, Delta's new service to Hilton Head and expanded service to Myrtle Beach offers customers comfortable, convenient options for travel beginning this spring,'' said Bob Cortelyou, Delta's vice president of Network Planning. ``With the new service, customers in Hilton Head and the surrounding communities will have unparalleled access to the world's largest hub in Atlanta offering connecting flights to nearly 300 destinations across the globe.''
Delta's new three-times daily service between Atlanta and Hilton Head will be operated using the 66-passenger ATR turboprop aircraft featuring two-by-two all-leather seating. With the expanded service between Atlanta and Myrtle Beach, Delta will offer customers nearly 30 percent more seats between March and September. The airline expects to announce additional flights for the 2007 peak travel season later this winter, further expanding summer capacity for Myrtle Beach customers. The increased service at Myrtle Beach will offer a mix of jet and turboprop aircraft, including the MD-88 aircraft featuring 14 seats in first class and 128 seats in economy.

It is time to compete with USAir Express (PDT), since they are the only airline serving Hilton Head currently. ASA service will be seasonal, though.

It's gonna be hard to compete with the Dash and 13-15 Flights a day during the summer!!! But we will be more then happy to carry your passagers since the ATR will be weight restricted like a mofo!! ATR has been tried before into HXD and failed... Gonna be tuff!!! But I look forward to the Tikki Bar and partying with the ASA Crews!!!
And really who cares we will all be the same company soon!!! wink wink!!

AT7s were tried before? Huh? Colgan used to have BE1900s in there, but I don't remember anything else. I think you are thinking of somewhere else.

And, this service was probably just announced to help add "competition" to the HXD market. (Yet another reason for the DOJ to disapprove any takeover---wink wink)

Ah, I bet the loads will be quite good, since the connections in ATL are top rate.

If I am not mistaken, I have a bud I work with (ex Eagle Pilot) and I believe he said Eagle tried it to RDU with the ATR 42's and were weight restricted like crazy!

Yea I think your right about the added 'competition' to disapprove takeover! Makes sense since the ATR's are set to leave ASA. Or maybe Skywest will bring in some EMB120's?

shame they cant do it on a 700 - would be slightly restricted but we carry good loads out of eyw and thats a 4000 ft runway and a 500 mile trip.

probably too heavy and would blow that church on the end of the runway down on a static takeoff.

The HXD folks voted down a runway increase. They didn't wanna have to disturb the birds or animals to make the runway longer!
But then again if its to put up a 4 million dollar home they will cut down anything!!

KEYW is 4801. KHXD is 4300.

No he means it's already been discussed ad-nauseum in another thread on this board.

Who built that terminal? Same guy that had the MX hangar in ORF, right? I bet he's twirlin' even faster in that coffin...

Yup Eagle used to do it.

Off topic, I think a couple of my worst landings in the dash were at HXD.

HA... just after SOE I pounded one on so hard there (at night) that the flight deck flashlights came on (slider switches, pointed down in the bracket. CA laughed his ass off at me.

Hah! I have knocked those suckers off the wall more than once.

Worst one I've had in there was with 35 kts of crosswind, and a captain who kept laughing and calling me a pansy the whole way to the ground.

I hit hard enough to open the overheads on the other Dash that was sitting at the gate.

Other than that, my worst landings are at SBY. I'm trying to hit hard enough to give SF a heart attack while he's in his office.

....

Yea I think everyone has knocked those flashlights loose a few times. Mine didnt just turn on, they would usually end up down by the door, next to the water bottle/crew meals i forgot to secure before takeoff.

First few times those water bottles hit the door on rotation i thought we hit something, a small child, large flightless bird, a mule, etc. My only bird strike at PDT was right after liftoff out of HXD though. The little sucker made quite a bang as it hit the side nose area right around my right knee.

You know what the definition of insanity is, right? Doing the SAME THING over and over and over and over and expecting a different result. Hey, what's that? That's ASA's management team!

Trojan

Maybe DAL is trying to create some additional route/community served overlap for the merger... There are probably plenty of passengers who could use ATL as a transfer hub as well. No more HXD monopoly for USAirways...
