Have the SLC final awards or the vacancies for ATL been released by Brian Morris yet? I'm out on military leave and getting anxious about where and what my job will be when I get back. I WAS able to get a bid preference form in on time. Thanks.

They just came out. SLC went pretty senior with capt and fo. It went from #3 seniority to #504 on the captains side and #426 to #1264 on the first officers side.

What's involved when Captain's go back to the right seat? I noticed a few familiar and/or infamous names on the FO list.

Since my first choice was Capt 700 SLC, then F/O, then ATR capt, and since it went senior, I am stuck with F/O...if i decide to take it.

The award is final for SLC. If you, got it, I believe you have to take it for now.

Position notice 04-16 is out on flica as well. Weird stuff is going on, all the ATL CRJ effective dates are 1/31/05... I thought some would leave before the end. Or will half the seniority list be sitting reserve as they dwindle away the flights?

Yeah, you don't want to go there - SLC sucks, you need more PIC, you'd be flying with all the crusty old capts, ... let's see... it's too cold in the winter, Mormon girls are prudes, it's a dry state... you should definitely bid ATL!! ;-)

I don't think so. Since there are vacancies in ATL on the preliminaries, if you're senior enough to hold it, you should be able to get the award - especially since there are no seat locks til you finish training.

Yeah, you are correct. I was not thinking of the 200. The 700 shows a seat reduction.

Uh, they call them FINALS for a reason. Once you get it its final. it depends which seat he is on now, but he would have to bid back over, BUT you cant go anywhere else (as in another airplane) on the F/O side, only to Capt on another aircraft. The contract states that you can swap seats only when changing domicles, as in Shamrocks G/F.. :) :)

Not entirely true! I used to be based there at a previous job and I think just the opposite! Mormon girls are so oppressed that act out in the most insane fashion! They take things to a whole new level of extremes (drinking, sex, smoking, etc)before they run back to the church after a few years of debauchery. And SLC is not much different than California when it comes to drinks! The "dry" stereotype went out the door a few years ago. Anyone remember the "Bud Garden" Riot during the 2002 Winter Olympics?

slc laws...

can someone explain to me what the drinking laws are out in SLC?
i have heard such various responses that i dont undertand.

thanks

Found this on the web that may explain Utah's laws (with humor)

Why are all the dance clubs and bars "Private Club for Members?
All clubs and bars that sell liquor are required by law to advertise as a "Private Club For Members." This is Utah's way of scarring people away from bars/clubs and trick you into thinking you can't get in without knowing someone or paying a lot of money. Any bar or dance club is open to the public.

You do NOT need to know someone to get into the club. You do NOT need to buy a full membership. You may need to purchase a temporary membership for a few bucks. You can go to the bars and clubs in Utah as you would any other state. Utah just makes you jump through an extra hoop. It's stupid, it makes no sense, but neither do many of our law makers.

Memberships
Every club is required to sell you a "membership" before you can enter the club. But think of it as a "cover charge" and it's probably less money than what you'd pay to get into any club LA, Vegas, San Francisco, etc.

How do I get a temporary membership?
Before entering the club/bar, the cashier or door guy will ask you if are you a member. Just tell them no and they will give you a small card to sign or fill out. Pay the cover charge, keep the card. It's your "temporary membership" and it's good for 2 weeks.

Should I buy full memberships to all the clubs?
No, you do not need to buy a membership to ALL the clubs you plan on visiting. None of us want to go around carrying a wallet full of cards. Buy temporary memberships until you decide which clubs you will benefit from the most. Some of the busy clubs will offer a separate line for it's members and it may get you in faster since you don't have to fill out a card each time. Some clubs may offer a discounted cover charge and some smaller clubs/bars may offer no cover charge if you have a membership.

My friend has a membership, if I go with him, do I need to buy a membership or a temporary membership?
No, your friend can get up to 7 people in with him.

The membership thing shouldn't be a big deal to the patrons, it's more of a pain in the ass for the club owners........

Hours
Clubs are open until 2AM but alcohol cannot be sold after 1AM. Grocery stores begin selling beer again at 7AM, even on Sunday.

3.2% Beer & Cocktails
Weight vs Volume explanation.........Cocktails are metered at 1 oz, unless you order a double, etc. Max liquor per drink is 2.7 oz.

Where can I purchase alcohol?
In Utah, 3.2% beer and malt beverages can be purchased from grocery and convenience stores. Anything above 3.2% (wine, import beer, hard liquor) must be purchased from a state liquor store. The state liquor stores are open Monday-Saturday except holidays. The store hours depend on the location. Downtown stores are open till 10PM.

What time do they stop selling alcohol?
The clubs close at 2AM but stop "selling" alcohol at 1AM. Legally, you can still be served alcohol after 1AM if you already purchased it. Some bar tenders are kind enough to hold a drinks for you if you've pre-purchased them.

Quirky Laws - City Ordinances:
No drinks on the dance floor. Yes, it's true. I guess they were looking out for our safety on this one but, come on, we are all adults! Personally, I think it's more dangerous to leave your drink unattended while you dance. So do what I do; dance with your drink, off of the dance floor. That's right, on the side or near your table, as long as you aren't blocking traffic, do it. The law only applies to the dance floor.

No dancing after 2AM. A yeah, this is the most ridiculous law out there. Of course it violates our rights, but it only applies to a place of business and that's how they can get away with that law. That's why we can't have after hour clubs.

Some of you guys really need to learn the meaning of "sarcasm." Since some here apparently don't, I'll explain: I want to go to SLC and hold the best line I can. The individual I was replying to is senior to me. Therefore, it is in my best interest to talk any senior folks into going to the domicile I don't want to go to. Therefore I come up with any silly excuses I can think of (true, not, or made up) to get him/her to change his/her mind about going to SLC. Clear? Sheesh!

Uh, FINALS doesn't mean you're stuck anywhere forever. Since there are now 200 openings each for CA and FO in ATL, those who received the final for SLC can still bid to ATL, they just won't be displaced and have their move paid by the company. The only thing you said that makes sense is this: "The contract states that you can swap seats only when changing domicles." This is exactly what I said. Last time I checked, ATL and SLC were different domiciles.

Were saying the same thing, but with a few fine points.. I didnt mean the Finals are 'forever'.. Of course you can bid somewhere else. BUT, lets say you got the SLC 70 F/O award, then the company will not allow you to go backwards for a ATL 50 F/O slot regardless if you can hold it. Of course you can go to ATL on the 70.

Yeah, you can't go back if you bid off the seat from what I understand. If you were a 50 seat FO and bid and was awarded the 70 seat FO, you could not go back to the right seat of the 50. If you were never on the right seat of the 50, you could bid it, however.

The Skycaps at the SLC airport are mostly blonde babes.

Not necessarily true. Brian Morris can allow you to bid back to the 50 from the 70 if he wants. It is just not traditionally done or desired by most.
