Is it safe to say the SLC ops are not going very smoothly? All RNO flights cnx and replaced with mainline 737's? Whats going on with the ASA flying in SLC?

I think that is a great idea. We used to pack our planes to Reno from Salt Lake, especially in the Western Airlines days. I bet most of our Salt Lake passengers would love to see a return of more 737s.

Was it a charter or just a replacement for a CR7? I haven't been to Salt Lake in a while, but I didn't think we had a lot of extra 737-300s sitting around. Maybe it will stick.....

Typical ASA. I'm sure they simply forgot some important piece of the puzzle. TAKEOFF AND LANDING DATA we gotta have that before we go? DOH. If not that then something similar.

737-800,s sat&sun not sure what else has been in. ASA CRJ7 flights replaced. SKYW CRJ's still running.

Don't worry, before long SLC will be outperforming ATL just as DFW did while it was in existence!

Found out today someone forgot to get approved for CR7 ops into RNO.

737,s will operate at least until the 8th.

I bet they do, 50 something people on a 100 something seat jet, love the leg room.

That is not the whole truth. ASA does not have the waiver for the "low" approach minimums into RNO and are stuck with higher vis and cig requirements.

I guess you wont be doing much winter flying in RNO without the silver ILS 16R.

Will you get approved for it?
What about the S.E. climbout?
What is the whole truth?

Normal ILS 16R is something like 1100 and 4 miles, Silver ILS 16R is 200&1/2. There are times in RNO when it is less than 4 miles for a week. I guess the ASA folks have overlooked that for now.

Yeah, and maybe we will get caught up with the rest of the industry for CAT II quals...and yes, SLC will be as good or better than Big D and still outperform ATL....

Maybe larger aircraft with more room and first class seats will attract more passengers Russ. We used to fill 5 737s a day to RNO from SLC. A lot of passengers probably skip SLC for DEN to fly on United mainline or TED flights.

General...if it was such a huge success, then why are we getting it at ASA? We only get the routes that Big D can't make money on and once it is too big for us, they give it to you guys, so I'm not so sure that your statement is correct! I mean, hasn't Skywest been flying that route for awhile? Now there are 20 more seats than on a 50!

My wife traveled SFO/SLC last weekend, so when she looked up the flights, there were 4 RJ's and one 737-800. They were all booked to between 40 and 50! So the aircraft of choice for non-revs? Yeah, you guessed, the -800! She said she looked on the board and she counted 47 non-revs, and there were still 38 empty seats.

BTW, this week DL had enough with the RNO situation, so SKW and ASA are trading routes: SKW is going back to RNO and ASA is taking over PHX. My friend in crew scheduling said they were having to reflow a lot of crews.

Looking up the schedule on the internet shows 2 737s (one 300 and one 738) and 5 RJs (you are right though on the weekends, there is one less 737 and one less RJ on Sundays). The loads may be fairly light now, but it is Feb and the rainy season in SFO I believe. Those mainline flights will increase in the Summer, and so will the nonrevs and loads.

Interesting about RNO and PHX for ASA. I know Delta counts RNO as a special airport, and we just started one daily 757 from ATL. It's a good trip---with a 31 hour layover, and plenty of time to go Skiing up at Tahoe. I don't know if there is a special Capt. checkout, though.
