Hey guys,

I usually frequent this board for info pertaining to the morecommercial side of flying as opposed to GA type stuff atStudentPilot. However, I am looking at commercial stuff now.

Out of all the places I applied to (college), I think I have ruled outschools like U of I, Madison, ect, because they just don't "click" likeU of A did. And for those of you that flew out of ORD thisweekend know how crappy it was! That was probably the icing onthe cake in terms of the climate U of A offers, but anyways to flying:

I did not get a chance to find out the flying possibilities in AZ(Tucson).... I did visit the Airforce base and drove around onAviation Highway, but seeing retired military aircraft didn't provideany info!

Two questions:

For renting, what airports provide good training (for CFI license) with well maintained aircraft?

And for flying commercial, are there any ops at RYN or AVQ? Ifigure sightseeing is very big down there, offering some sort of flyingyear round to low time pilots.

Any info on the area, airports, operations, or experience would be great!
Thanks!

Very little down there in the way of sightseeing or frivolous type flying. Most flying is either flight instruction or working assignments; freight, government, military, and a mixture of the latter two. A little ambulance work, some corporate, and that's about it.

If you're looking for sightseeing jobs, there is a little toward Grand Canyon; up into South Rim and down to Sedona.

Flight instructing in AZ is biggest around Phoenix, mesa, goodyear, etc.

Try Scottsdale airport. I rent from them, and it is a pretty solid operation. If you want the name, just pm me. I got my private there way back in '92, and I still rent from them when I go back on vacation. A CFI that I knew from there got hired by AW or SW (I forgot). Flying in and around AZ has been some of the best times I have had in my short flight-career.
